Most Overrated/Underrated Games Ever

Quick Man is basically a spastic asswipe that I can hardly even shoot. The fact that I had difficulty getting seven shots in on him should tell you something!

Should it? I really have no problem hitting him a few times to kill him, and his boomerangs are piss easy to dodge.

Quick Man in Battle Network 2, and Network Transmission on the other hand, is a douche~

well they lied to youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Seriously, it's not that bad. I thought it was kinda fun. Although it was lacking in some aspects like story and the level system, while cool, had some weird things (attack yourself and gain xp).

*notices IV is not on that list*

@_@ GO PLAY IV NAO. The DS version is pretty good even though it's hard as hell. Harder than the original Japanese version hard.
The GBA and PSP versions of II have fixed that :( Why does everybody call the game broken because the NES version was exploitable? Is anybody going to be playing the NES version?

Underrated:

The first three Rayman games. It jumped the shark a bit after that, imho.
Monkey Hero (no one I ask remembers this game. It WAS my early childhood)
Also, despite being games of movies, A Bug's Life, The Lion King and Hercules are all loads of fun (bare in mind I hate the movie Hercules, but I still love the game)
Ratchet: Deadlocked

Overrated:

Fable 2 (which I love, but is not as "oh my god, you can do ANYTHING" as people make it out to be)

Underrated:

The first three Rayman games

Rayman 2 and 3 definitely. Most people I've encountered regard Rayman 1 as a classic but they almost entirely also regard it as the only good Rayman game. Sure 2 and 3 were nowhere near as good, but it was only when the Rabbids came along that the games got really bad.

Those were Rayman games?

:P

Yeah, this. Rayman 2 and 3 were practically my childhood games, I have a lot of fondness for them. I actually think they're MUCH more fun to play than Rayman 1...

Just don't count the Rabbids games as part of the main series at all, it helps! And don't worry, Rayman: Origins will be out eventually. :D

It really is one of the weakest in the series. II, IV, V, VI, IX, XI, and XII are all better. The best thing about VII is the mini-games.
Disagreed. I believe the best five in the series are VI, VII, VIII, IX, and X (X think it's X, but IV comes very damn close) in no particular order.

I pretty much agree completely with this, although I might replace VIII with XII in that list.

oh I remember this game! I played it on a demo disc which I think I still have. That was a good game.

I think it jumped the shark after 2, but rayman is an awesome game.

Overrated: TF2.

...that is all.

What is this I don't even

It's not even THAT popular when compared to games like Halo, Gears of War and Call of Duty.

But if you find Team Fortress 2 overrated, mind at least explaining why?

(I like how nobody has to explain why COD/Halo etc are overrated, but insult TF2 and OH MY GOD YOU GUYS)

At the end of the day it's still another shoot-'em-up. Plus, the weird obsession people seem to have over it, whereas I've never seen it with Halo or CoD. Unlike CoD, I don't mean to say it's a bad game but, it's still something many people have obsessed over it to the point where it has put me off of playing.

Jessie I knew SOMEONE was going to say that. But if you want to know why I think so personally then it's because the controls are clunky at best, the setting is generally uninteresting and the characters aren't a lot better. Plus real is brown.

And I suppose you have a point there, Espeon, but I think the obsession people have with it is noticeable because the game itself is visually outstanding, making it easier to notice in turn.

But it's not like I can convince you otherwise so I'm set with that answer.

Okay, I haven't played Halo and thus have no opinion on that, but...

The controls for COD (in my experience; I'm terrible but I have played it a few times) are fine, what are you talking about? Left trigger aim; right trigger shoot makes perfect sense. Hrml, ever heard the phrase 'a bad player blames his controls'? IIRC you can change the controls if they really, really bother you, as well.

Did you even play the Rio de Janeiro levels in Modern Warfare 2? They're gorgeous. The setting is really wonderfully done, in my opinion. Some of the layouts can be a little bland, sure, but playing them in HD makes them look great regardless of the 'lack of colour'. The fact that they're not bright and sharp like TF2's doesn't mean that the graphics are poor or boring. Example: this.

Call of Duty is very, very good at what it wants to do. It doesn't aim to have the best story EVER; it's aiming at being fun. I think, judging by the huge amounts of players on Xbox Live, that it does this pretty damn well.

Also here's a less coherent ramble by my boyfriend:

well this isn't really a game that's made to be "interesting", especially setting-wise. It's meant to be realistic, which they nailed 100% with the setting. As for the characters how horrible of them not to appeal to what he finds interesting while fighting for their lives. Does he want /genuine character development/ in a game like this?! NO. That's not the point. This game is meant to be FUN! You play with your FRIENDS while trying to kill each other, and then have bragging rights later. IT'S FUN. The controls are perfect for everything you can do in the game and if he doesn't like them then he can change his controls to tactical, which most better players find better. And the graphics are Stunning actually. Not just on a HD TV, just normally the entire game looks gorgeous.

(isn't he adorable?)

Well I guess I just am unable to appreciate it.

Anyway.

Adding to the underrated list, I think that Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure deserves a mention. It is such a fun game with a remarkably funny setting, but not a lot of people have heard of it.

Although in the later half of the game it is hard as fucking hell.

I wouldn't say TF2 is overrated, just that its fanbase is overly obsessive, which is true about quite a few other games that aren't counted as overrated.

I would have the same opinion on CoD but then there's the fact that they bring out new games quite often and the fact that when a new one comes out, everyone (at least at my school) seems to go nuts. They say how much better/worse it is than the last one and act as if any game that came out before it is now obsolete. I don't say that TF2 players never act like this when it gets updated though.

(EDIT: In fact, I've never seen a TF2 player act as if anyone who doesn't play their game shouldn't consider themselves a gamer. Whereas all CoD players at my school and quite a lot of the ones that actively discuss it on the internet seem to tell me that I shouldn't consider "video games" a hobby since I don't play CoD)

I also find the amount of hype for new CoD games ridiculous, I don't even try to follow news on gaming but I end up knowing each new game's name, release date, and price before it even appears in shop windows for preorder. Whereas when TF2 gets updated I never even hear about it until I actually go looking on sites that discuss Valve games. I know a new game coming out isn't exactly the same as one getting updated but still!

I've just never heard of anyone talk about it in real life since nobody anywhere near where I live seems to even heard of it. And in my opinion if I never hear anyone talk about it then I can't really see it being overrated, which I guess is a little silly of me.

It could also very well do with the fact that I automatically dislike games that, as Male Gardevoir mentioned, do the whole real is brown thing.

And as far as both fanbases go, it could do with a little less "the other fanbase calls themselves better therefore we're better".

wat? Gorgeous? That's a bit of an overstatement buddy. I mean sure, Modern Warfare doesn't look bad, but it really isn't anything special. I'm not sure if you have a 360 or PS3, but have you seen Uncharted 2, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy XIII, and Heavy Rain. Much better, in terms of graphics...

And while CoD is a good game, it still is very overrated. The hype over that game in unbelievable.
