• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Death Masks by Jim Butcher (Note that this is my dad's book and I have no idea what I'm about to read...)

"This is dangerous, though, isn't it? Having the body out like this"

"Yeah," Butters said, his voice frank. "But County is full, and the only thing that's going to happen if I report an occurence of free-range smallpox is another evaluation."

Murphy shot me a warning look and stepped a very little bit between me and Butters. "You got a time of death?"

Butters shrugged. "Maybe forty-eight hours ago, tops. All of these diseases seemed to sprout up at exactly the same time. I make cause of death as either shock or a massive failure or necrosis of several major organs, plus tissue damage from an outrageously high fever. It's anyone's guess as to which one gets the blue ribbon. Lungs, kidneys, heart, liver, spleen—"

Ooh, this actually sounds kinda interesting. =)

"Country roads
Take extra care on country roads and reduce your speed at approaches to bends, which can be sharper than they appear, and at junctions and turnings, which may be partially hidden. Be prepared for pedestrians, horse riders, cyclists, slow-moving farm vehicles or mud on the road surface. Make sure you can stop within the distance you can see to be clear. You should also reduce your speed where country roads enter villages."

June 12

I'm in some kind of school where students duel their teachers. I was in a class vs teacher duel with my deceased english teacher. She is much better than us and as she finishes off the other students I slip out the door and hide in my next period class (so I don't "lose"?), which happens to be Wes's current class.

Afterwards there is some sort of huge assembly. Everyone is sitting on bleachers but turned the other way as the bleachers go up. Wes is in the row behind me playing a DS. He just got back from a long trip. Mom is sitting next to me and teasing me.

The POV then switches to a third-person view of Touga from Revolutionary Girl Utena. He's dueling with his teacher, who is a villain of some sort. The teacher casts raining barrages of rapiers. Touga's friends (the student council from the show) sacrifice themselves to shield him. Touga struggles but eventually wins epically.

Bittersweet ending music starts to play and Utena stops at the classroom door, seeing Touga and his defeated teacher. She makes some sort of reference to something that probably happened earlier and I (suddenly in the room) assume that she is in love with him. Touga doesn't seem to catch the reference and goes on his way. I chase him down and yell at him for not realizing her feelings.

I wake up soon after.

... It's my dream diary. That counts as a book, right?

I chose the next closest book because the closest one had a photo on page 51.

Zaphod looked up at him from where he was sitting in a corner sharing unspoken thoughts with Marvin.
"Yeah?" he said.
"The building will shortly be landing. When you leave the building, do not go out of the door," said Roosta, "go out of the window.
"Good luck," he added, and walked out of the door, disappearing from Zaphod's life as mysteriously as he had entered it.
Zaphod leapt up and tried the door, but Roosta had already locked it. He shrugged and returned to the corner.
Two mintues later, the building crashlanded amongst the other wreckage. Its escort of Frogstar Fighters deactivated their force beams and soared off into the air again, bound for Frogstar World A, an altogether more congenial spot. They never landed on Frogstar World B. No one did. No one ever walked on its surface other than the intended victims of the Total Perspective Vortex.

"Mole, who had obviously been the least tired at the end of the journey through the estate, was the first to wake the next evening. It was still daylight. He looked all around at his companions, to see if there was anyone awake that he could talk to. But they all continued to sleep, their bodies rising and falling rhythmically; a gentle rhythm that had been undisturbed by the daytime traffic noise, or by passing pedestrians."

If anyone can work out what this book is I will love you forever. ;~;

"I'm in."
He didn't understand the rules. He'd never played poker before, only backgammon, and for the first half hour he lost again and again. Eventually, though, Lefty began to understand the difference between five-card draw and seven-card stud, and gradually the balance of payments around the table began to shift. "Three of these," Lefty said, showing three aces, and the men started to grumble. They watched his dealing more closely, mistaking his clumsiness for a cardsharp's sleight of hand. Lefty began to enjoy himself, and after winning a big pot cried, "Ouzo all around!" But when nothing happened, he looked up and saw again how truly deserted the Casin was, and the sight brought home to him the high stakes they were playing for. Life. They were playing for their lives, and now, as he examined his fellow gamblers, and saw perspiration beading their brows and smelled their sour breath, Lefty Stephanides, showing far more restraint than he would four decades later when he played the Detroit numbers, stood up and said, "I'm folding."

"Altogether, then ..."

Ron, Hermione, Fred, George, Fleur, and Mundungus drank. All of them gasped and grimaced as the potion hit their throats: At once, their features began to bubble and distort like hot wax. Hermione and Mundungus were shooting upward; Ron, Fred, and George were shrinking; their hair was darkening, Hermione's and Fleur's appearing to shoot backward into their skulls. Moody, quite unconcerned, was now loosening the ties of the large sacks he had brought with him. When he straightened up again, there were six Harry Potters gasping and panting in front of him. Fred and George turned to each other and said together, "Wow- we're identical!" " I dunno, though, I think I'm still better looking," said Fred, examining his reflection in the kettle

Six More Possible Meanings for the Word IQ
I Quit
Some people believe that an average IQ predicts a life of menial jobs and deary relationships. Wrong! IQ is only one way to measure intelligence, and it's by no means the last word. No one should be sentenced by a test score.

"What do you mean, secret?" Hector asked. "It's not a secret. Everyone knows what those letters mean."
The Baudelaires sighed with confusion and dismay, which is not a pleasant combination. "What my brother means," Violet explained, "is that we chose V.F.D to become our new guardian because we'd been told of a terrible secret - a secret with the initials V.F.D."
"Who told you about this secret?" Hector asked.
"Some very dear friends of ours," Violet replied. "Duncan and Isadora Quagmire. They discovered something about Count Olaf, but before they could tell us anything more-"
"Hold on a minute," Hector said. "Who's Count Olaf? Mrs. Morrow was talking about Count Omar. Is Olaf his brother?"
"No," Klaus said, shuddering at the very thought of Olaf having a brother. "I'm afraid The Daily Punctilio got many of the facts wrong."

I bet this one's super hard to guess. [/sarcasm]

Buried with the dog on the preceding pages, a baboon (opposite) harbors a secret that helps identify it as a pet: An x-ray reveals missing canine teeth, probably removed to keep the creature from nipping royal fingers. During mass baboon burials at Tuna el-Gebel (above), priests placed a votive animal in each niche. Thousands of such mummies have been found at the site, and many more likely lie in areas yet to be explored.

The very last page of "Animals Everlasting," an article from the November 2009 edition of National Geographic Magazine, which is about animal mummies in ancient Egypt. This was captioning two photos, one of a baboon mummy and the other of an apparent tomb for baboons.

Expressing your opinion (I think that...)

To express your opinion, use the verbs achar (to find) or pensar (to think), followed by que:

Acho que ela está doente. I think that she is ill.
Penso que ele está doente. I think that he is ill.
Acho que sim. I think so.
Acho que não. I don't think so.

wow.. so do I. it's missing both covers and a few pages, but I still turn to it for attacks, compatibility and egg moves. (the poxedex part still has all its pages.)

@Blade: My cover is taped back on as is a page near the front, but same as you; it's how I conjure my movelists for my competitive Pokémon.

... Szedvilas had no use for property owning. He told them cruel stories of people who had been done to death in this buying a home swindle. They would be almost sure to get into a tight place and lose all their money; and their house might be good-for-nothing from top to bottom--how was a poor man to know? Then, too, they would swindle you with the contract--and how was a poor man to understand anything about a contract? It was all nothing but robbery and there was no safety in keeping out of it. And pay rent? asked Jurgis. Ah, yes, to be sure, the other answered, that too was robbery. It was all robbery, for a poor man. After half an hour of such depressing conversation they had their minds quite made up they had been saved from the brink of a precipice; but then Szedvilas went away and Jonas, who was a sharp little man, reminded them that the delicatessen business was a failure according to its proprietor and that this might account for his pessimistic views. Which of course reopened the subject!

The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, which I just finished and now have to do a data sheet for in the next couple days. Towards the end I got to where I just skipped everything except where Jurgis was concerned. You'd have to go through what Jurgis had to care much about what those seven-ish socialists were going on about for sixteen and a half page-long-paragraphs' worth. The religious zealot Lucas was kind of amusing though. I liked how most of the others didn't give much of a shit for the parallels to Jesus in the parts I read.

"I'm no slouch, my dear. Not that any of my colleagues"--he spoke the word with vehement distaste--"would admit as much, blast them. I'd like to see Rupert Devereaux or Carl Mortenson do as well." He sniffed, settled back into his sofa. "The irony of it was that I just wanted to ask it a few questions. Wasn't going to enslave it at all. Anyway, I'd forgotten to add a Tertiary Fettering; the thing broke out and had my leg off before the automatic Dismissal was set in."

Ptolemy's Gate- Jonathan Stroud.

It's a boring page, sadly. D:
