Open Sinnoh Folk Story 2

Silas glanced up at the Arcanine. Maybe, if she just left, we could make some progress! Silas knew that he couldn't run at the same speed as an Arcanine, but he refused to get the help of this girl. Or anyone else's. Besides, the trees had to slow her down a bit. He could handle himself... Although, getting seperated from these people didn't sound like such a bad thing... Heh, it sounds better than having to be around long enough for them to want to make friends. I might just fall behind... 'on accident.'

He could feel the pelt under the left shoulder of his jacket. It needed a little shift, and he could change. Or he could keep leaning on the tree. Only one or two people had seen him, so he wasn't exactly well-known or well-noticed. "Thank God for that..." He muttered under his breath.

She felt a bit self-conscious already, like everyone was staring at her froofy girly form. All that pink jazz, she wasn't really into... But she supposed if anybody had the better right to feel like that, it was the male Beautifly... but he was looking at her for a bit too, it seemed. His weird mouth thingy was moving in a weird way, she wasn't sure what the heck that meant. She felt a bit bad though as she watched him squeak.

"Oooh... oooh... really really sorry. I don't have good control over..." Arylett trailed off and looked in the direction he was, at the Parasect. Huh. Well, if there was one thing she should be grateful of, it's that she wasn't a nasty old bug like that. That made her feel a bit less... conscious. "Hmm... wonder what it's like... to be one of those." Sad, sad attempts at conversation.

"Yes... Grace. That's it," she clarified. But she didn't have long to stay calm; the Skarmory on which she was sitting lurched, and she wobbled a bit before finally resting her hands on the bird's metal armor to keep herself from losing balance. The ground fell away below them, and Grace had felt like her stomach was in knots. She could have sworn she knew this feeling of flying... extreme joy. That's why it felt familiar. It was hard to remember as a Kirlia; she knew her intentions, but a lot of things faded away other than what was part of her in the present.

Okay, so now she would try to see which trees were the oldest... her psychic power would help, which was why she had volunteered. She sighed, tightening her grip on the lower plate of the Skarmory's neck (although not so much as to harm him), and focused on the area around her. Kirlia had an ability to see into the future; maybe she could use that to a small extent and see which tree they were looking for. As she concentrated her mind's power, the air around her almost looked like it was becoming distorted. It was hard to see things behind her head, but she could perfectly sense everything. Her mind was becoming sensitive to the space around her... and the flow of time.

The moments were stretching by as if each were a minute, but then in her head, they started to speed up. It was another lurching feeling, and she felt almost as if she were falling off of something. Reflexively, she grabbed for the first thing she could find. Her mind clutched onto something... warm. It was said that Kirlia would use the presence of its Trainer to amplify its power, long ago... but here, she would have to use someone else. At least the Skarmory was remotely cheerful; that was what she relied on. It let the energy flow through her, and she could feel every second rush past her closed eyes, until finally, she opened them on another world.

The tree was huge. Old and withered bark looked like it would crumble away at the slightest touch. But it was the biggest tree that she had ever seen... and there was a circle of an area with no trees around it. No wonder; it would overshadow anything within a certain radius of it and prevent anything from growing.

Then, just as she took in this information, she felt herself falling back. Another startling feeling, and then she could feel herself going back... her mind twisted to get through what people called time for what could have been hours or only seconds...

And she found herself back in the air, on top of the Skarmory.

"That was it." She paused. "It's not going to be easy to miss this tree. Really big and old-looking." Her voice was soft and trailed off, as if her mind had not quite returned to her body yet.

"It's fine, it feels just like having a spark from fire landing on you, but it doesn't hurt as much. It just sends a tiny jolt. And that jolt becomes a tiny adreneline rush."

Jude looked over his shoulder, watching the Parasect move away. "Well, being an insect feels.. strange. You sort of pay a little more attention to dirt and plants, depending on what you are. Like, I'm more interested in flowers and even have the urge to pollinate, but he can't fly, so he might be interested in trees or dirt."

Turning to Arylett again, he asked, "What's it like to have fur, or walk on four legs?"

"Oh yeah... yeah." She would conveniently leave out the fact that bugs... really freaked her out. Best not say that, yes.

"Well, it's a bit... hot, I guess, all this erm... fleece. It feels a lot like hair though, just... thicker. As for the four legs part, well, that..." Once again, she felt herself turning warm and it was completely unrelated to all of the fleece around her. "It's... nice, I guess. Feels sort of... freeing. But I can walk on two legs too, that isn't as comfortable though."

Fer blinked. He felt weird, like a wall in his mind had been opened and now his feelings and notions were flowing outwards. Weird. It wasn't bad or anything, and it felt weirder when he stood up too fast than this did. He could only conclude that it was a result of whatever the girl on his back was doing.

Fer angled very slightly downwards, bringing them inexorably closer to the ground. He noticed for the first time that Grace's thin arms were clutching his neck. That was the thing about his Skarmoriness; the thick metal plates and feathers made it quite a bit harder to feel things. The boy-turned-bird felt his eyes drawn to a patch of the forest, a ring of blankness surrounding a large patch of dark, dingy leaves that matched each other perfectly in hue. This was odd in that the other parts of the forest were both in various states of rot and very closely packed. Fer found himself wondering how this could be when...

"That was it." Her voice was quiet and almost inaudible over the wind. "It's not going to be easy to miss this tree. Really big and old-looking."

"Yeah," Fer said, turning his head round to look at his passenger, "I think I see it. That ring over there, with no trees around it?"

Why was it Arylett seemed so awkward to talk to? She was the complete opposite of Judah.

"I bet it's really warm in the winter, though. Beautiflies don't have anything to protect them, but I've heard they travel to a different region when it starts getting cold. And we can't even walk, just fly everywhere," he sighed. He noticed then, was she blushing? Or just more of a deeper tone of pink? He couldn't really tell. But then again, he became distracted by the thought of when they were going to leave, though he didn't want to say anything and rush Shana along.

Ugh, why was she so awkward?

"It must be... kinda cool to fly though." It continued to get worse, she noticed. Probably the pelt, it always made her feel more uneasy than usual. She was usually awkward anyways as a human, but like this... even more, she thought. Just don't think about it... think about something else... uh... uh... hmm. What else... what else?

"I guess it might be kinda... slow though. That's why you're riding on here, right? Although... we're not exactly... moving yet, are we?" That was, of course, her way of wondering when they were going to get going. So subtle.

Yes, Ura, I am psychic in my human form too. he said, answering her unspoken question. Not as strong as my Espeon form, though. Which explains why I'm not transforming; I wouldn't be able to hold on. Wow. That was more than Espio had said to anyone besides Eclipse and Mewtwo in a long time.

"Um, what can I do? Are Umbreon good for anything?" Eclipse whispered, hoping one of the teachers would her her, preferably Mew.

Flint glanced at the Umbreon. She seem to be talking to herself. Silly girl. People don't hear you if you don't speak up. Stretching his back, he began to walk around, seeing other people talk and talk and talk. There was a Flaafy conversing with a Beautifly. Next to them was a Parasect trying to act invisible in some sort of way. Flint wasn't really sure what to do so he decided to take a nap for now. Until someone wakes him up or something important happens, Flint decided to sleep.

(Sorry. My bad.)
