    Well, zilch amount of people know me in real life, but because of my insanely-popular (and I have no idea how, my sprites are really mediocre) sprite thread from the old forum, I have/had (mostly had) tons of friends. I mean, I picked up a good few from RPing, but still. And I honestly believe that's what earned you your popularity, your art thread. I don't seem to remember you being that well known at first. That isn't to say your actual personality didn't influence that, but it is what got many to know you.
