Abortion

I see your point, and I agree with you on that. I have similar views regarding kids. I was just curious.

(But wow damn man we gotta talk srs more often)

Going through an abortion is fucking hard and emotional, even if you don't think it's morally wrong. You're not weird.

I think one of the worst things about the abortion issue is the stigma attached to it; too many people see abortion as 'teen girl gets knocked up and still wants to party' and don't realise that abortion is in many cases circumstancial. :|

it really isn't just teenage girls though. :\

i do agree though, i kinda feel like that is what abortion is associated with

maybe I just a) don't know what it's like to be a woman or b) am a soulless bastard but I really don't think I would have any sort of problem getting an abortion :\

If I were to get pregnant right now -- god forbid that should happen -- but if I were to, I'm pretty sure I would have an abortion. It would definitely make me an emotional trainwreck, but... in the end, I know that having an abortion in my circumstances would be the right thing to do. It wouldn't be fair to me, my (potential) child, or my parents to have a baby when I'm not even independent yet. It would be irresponsible NOT to have an abortion, imho. :3

Yeah, that's the same with me. I can't even look after myself, let alone a child.

there was this article in our school newspaper and it was completely pro life in every way.

it was basically telling the students that abortion is wrong, rape isn't the baby's fault, life is special etc.

it kinda bugged me.

You should see my school's newspaper. It's the biggest pile of crap that ever was or could be written. :3 I don't even think the students who write for it would be capable of delving into an issue as deep as abortion.

I hate how sex ed programs (in the US, anyway) don't even list abortion as a possibility most of the time. It's all centered around abstinence; the message is always "DO NOT HAVE SEX but if you do use a condom". It doesn't appear to be very affective, either.

One day I came back to homeroom after an assembly, and for some reason my teacher had a tape on with some woman talking to a group of students about sex and pregnancy; after going on and on and on about how terrible unwanted pregnancies are and how they affect both people involved and how you need to avoid them, she started telling these kids that "lol pregnancy is survivable! Come on, I did it three times!". There was this strong underlying message of "lol knocked up? too bad, you're fucked!" And I seriously wanted to punch that bitch.

I mean, I guess it'd make more sense if abortion were legal in the first place, but sex ed programs in general piss me off because of this. :\

I learned very little about sex in sex ed programs at my school... most of what I learned, was from doing my own research on the internet! XD Sad, I know. My school too basically gave you a message somewhere along the lines of, "IF YOU HAVE SEX YOU'LL GET STDS AND GET PREGNANT AND DIE, NO QUESTION ABOUT IT".

my school told me last year (i have yet to have sex ed. this year, but we will soon), that if i am thinking, fantasizing, wondering, etc. about sex, that i am not normal for my age and should focus on doing/thinking about things that are more... for my age.

i'm sorry, but i really do think about it a lot, and i have some very odd fantasies, but i see nothing wrong with it. i raised my hand and said "well... i do think, fantasize, and wonder about it... am i bad?" and they told me that i should find something better to do.

they don't even teach you about sex though. it's more like "this is your period, girls".

Dewgong: Obviously each person is different and so on, so you're not a freak or anything.

As far as abortion is concerned, it's a contraceptive, basically. It's not an excuse to go sleeping around unprotected. So condom + birth control will filter out most unwanted pregnancies, and abortion can cover the ones that slip through, the accidents, and rape. It's really the same thing as birth control, just a few days or weeks later.

Now abortion after about twenty weeks or so is a bit excessive because it's beginning to resemble life. I would think that it'd be a lot easier and better for yourself to get an abortion before there are many noticeable affects.

These are probably the same people who consider fetishes mental disorders and think that porn tears families apart. It's really not a problem unless you think it is, or it leads to you going out and doing things that harm yourself or others. :\

When you hit a certain age, you're more than likely going to start thinking about sex, and I really don't understand what people like this expect us to do about it. It's like sex ed is trying to reinforce this outdated concept that sex is some kind of hideous, vulgar, taboo act, and the fact that that idea is so out of touch with today's society is precisely the reason why abstinence-only sex ed fails so much. :\

they did say something about fetishes, i can't remember what, but something negative. porn doesn't really tear families apart... unless yeah, you do something bad with it or you get in trouble (like if it's child porn, which there is a thread for, so.) i have a fetish for dog stuff. like collars, ears, tails, etc. i'm wearing a dog collar right now. i feel weird without it. but uh, fetishes aren't mental disorders... if they were, i'd have one. so would almost everyone else.

i've never thought of sex as being hideous, vulgar, etc. abstinence-only sex ed is horrible. abstinence is not at /all/ a decent solution for anything. sex is a part of life, and okay if you don't want to have sex, don't. if you do, go right ahead. really. it's not evil or anything. according to my school it is! but then, i always say "how did you get here?"

There is actually a defined threshold as to when the baby can be aborted.

I believe it is women's choice. I think that if you are out of college and responsible and accidentally have a baby, you should keep it. But if -god forbid- they get raped, you should get an abortion.

And I truly hate nothing more than rape. I'd rather have a racist person who is rude and pushes their beliefs on someone sitting right next to me than be in the same building as a rapist.

No. No no no no no. It is way to easy to go from that to "eh, who cares about other contraceptives, I can just get an abortion if I conceive".

Yeah, I just wasn't sure what it was.

I agree completely. It doesn't mean you shouldn't care. You should, but if it fails or you're too drunk to care, at the early point its roughly the same as birth control, just a few days or weaks later. Obviously people should actually care about what they let into their bodies.
