Jumpers, socks and blankets have been donated by people in Iceland, concerned about the elderly in East Yorkshire.

The gesture to residents in Hull was made by the presenters and listeners of Bylgjan FM radio programme Bitid.

After hearing news from Britain's National Pensioners Convention that up to one in 12 pensioners in Britain may die this winter due to a drop in temperature, the Icelandic Wool To England campaign was launched.

Really sweet gesture on Icelend's behalf, but they shouldn't have to do it.

considering that their economy got whatever the fancy economics term for "simultaneously buttfucked" is, i'd say that the people of iceland will probably need those jumpers a lot more than some yorkshire pensioners. :P

It's okay! Somebody once asked me if Scotland was off the coast of Canada.

And I see~ Greenland isn't completely ice, either -- ~60k people live on the not-icy bits!

Lol. ^-^ Something funny/Stupid: On maps of the US it shows Alaska on the coast of Texas right next to Hawaii, and they make Alaska smaller than Texas :l And Hawaii is far off the coast of California... >:[ Map makers must be lazy, or have never seen a world map o.o

What US maps? I've seen American maps and they're... not like that?

And yes Iceland is adorable. Anyone who helps old people is cool in my book.

That and as opal pointed out, we heat our houses with all-Icelandic geothermal energy. The economic troubles aren't touching the availability of that.

I don't know what map you're looking at. On my map it has Alaska and Hawaii in seperate boxes off in the corner.

You got a shitty map I guess.
 
I've seen maps like what Ice tiger describes. The context in which I saw them was one of those "people are stupid" blogs where there was a story about somebody who actually thought that Alaska was an island off the coast of Texas. Which I can only find miraculous, because it would require the person to either never have seen any other kind of map in their entire life, or have managed not to notice the discrepancy all this time.
