Mosh Pit Free-For-All Battle

I've at least heard from everyone who signed up for this now, so I'm closing it to further registrants. There are a couple of little niggles yet to work out with the pokémon some people picked, but hopefully I'll have a complete list to post soon. Then we can get started.

A few maintenance staff members look on nervously as the first trainers begin to arrive. While the latter chatter about why nobody's thought of doing something like this before, the employees feel confident that they know the answer--namely, because it's a terrible idea. Over a dozen battle-crazed pokemon crammed into a too-small pool of foam shapes? How could that possibly end well? Or, as the trainers gathering around the kiddie mosh pit wonder, how could it get any more awesome?

There's little room for everyone to claim ringside seats at the arena, and the trainers are forced to cluster fairly close together around the pit. There is some scuffling around as they try to decide on their pokemon, as well as a bit of minor confusion over the eligibility conditions for their chosen battlers. At last everyone is holding a single pokéball in hand. Excited glances, smirks, and light trash talk are exchanged before the referee finally gives the signal that the match is to begin.

The great flash that heralds all fifteen pokemon materializing in the mosh pit leaves everyone dazzled, not least the pokémon, who are about to find themselves in a world of cramped confusion--with the exception of Gorouna the geodude, who predictably sinks like a rock into the depths of the pool and so misses out on the drama above. Edward the persian nearly suffers the same fate, dragged down by his automail arm, but he spreads his body out as much as he can and scrambles for purchase in the foam until he's confident he can keep his head up in open air. Doing so gives him a good view of the sickliest meowth
he's ever laid eyes on. Penicillin favors the persian with a weak smile, who responds with a growl. He does not want to make friends.

Grizzle the teddiursa is sporting a mechanical implant as well, but his is much lighter-weight than Edward's, and the small normal type has no trouble staying near the surface. Most of the battle's participants are in a similar boat: one eevee, Ganondorf the houndour, Fondue the squirtle, and Acionyx the skelitten all seem quite at home in the mosh pit, settling in comfortably just up to their necks. Rachel the staryu, on the other hand, seems a bit perplexed by the pool of foam through which it cannot swim and simply lies flat on the surface of the mosh pit, core sparkling blankly up at the ceiling.

The two vulpix, Anmi and Sheila, seem on better terms than Edward and Penicillin, or at least merely wary of one another. The fire foxes have ended up on opposite sides of the pit and seem content to stay there, keeping a level eye on Tiamat the varporeon, who is having a great time swimming around the mosh pit, alternately sinking below the surface of the foam and bursting back up again in a scattering of blocks and balls. Though not as graceful in foam as she is in water, the vaporeon isn't having too much difficulty moving around.

Not a Creeper the lileep, though as rocky as Gorouna, isn't so streamlined and only sinks part of the way into the mosh pit. He is pleasantly surprised by his environment--after all, what better place to come across nice, happy little children than in a ball pit? The cradily extends his neck, his glowing yellow eyes pushing up just above the surface of the foam so that he can take stock of the playing field. When his reconnaissance is complete, he sinks back below the surface, waiting patiently for a nice, plump child to pass by overhead so that he can reach out and give it a big, friendly hug...

Meanwhile, Mole-estation! the diglett is feeling uncomfortably exposed without solid dirt to obscure her lower body. She draws foam in tight around herself and tries to relax. And then there's Nyasha--no pokemon better camouflaged in the mosh pit than the exeggcute, whose constituent eggs can easily pass for pink foam if you miss the eyes. The exeggcute is scattered near the surface of the pit, lying low for the moment as she awaits orders.

The mosh pit is terribly crowded, and the pokemon struggle through it at random, trying to find a spot where they can keep an eye on all their opponents without piling on top of one another. This is as much peace as they can hope to get, too; in a few moments attacks are going to start to fly, and the mosh pit will become a bloodbath. All eyes are on the referee, who at last raises one arm, ready to signal the start of the battle.

If I attacked either of them and they were DQed, would I be allowed to change my actions so they wouldn't be included?
No. Your attacks will simply be redirected as though they had targeted a pokémon that had fainted. If somebody *does* get disqualified, I don't want to extend another week for people to change their commands if desired.

All orders are in now. I'll get to work making sense of them.

Ah, Pwnemon, impatient as ever...I'm sure we'll get /something/ within the next three months. After all, how long would it take you to ref a battle with >10 people at once?

Round One, Act One

Edward is easily the fastest in the group, metal arm or no, and he's intent on removing that disgrace of a meowth as quickly as possible. Electricity sizzles along his metal arm and ripples through his fur, and just as Edward is about to fire his thunderbolt--he realizes that Penicillin is no longer standing opposite him. Edward blinks, then starts backwards with a hiss as the meowth appears right in front of his face, claws extended. Penicillin does no more than give Edward a light thwack on the nose, but shock and disgust are enough to make the persian lose control of his attack. Lightning fizzles harmlessly into the air around him as he hisses and bristles, outraged at Penicillin's nerves, disgusted that the sickly meowth actually touched him, and stunned that such an ill-looking creature could move so fast.

Meanwhile, Mole-estation! takes no notice of the catfight and does what diglett do best, vanishing into the depths of the pit in a small shower of displaced foam blocks. She digs straight to the bottom of the pit, where it is dim and relatively quiet. As such, she misses out on the brilliant flash that Rachel lets off--but then again, so do most of the other pokémon on the surface, as the staryu doesn't aim it anywhere in particular. The most the others have to do is pause and blink the dazzle out of their eyes before carrying on. Acionyx doesn't even bother to do that, instead starting up a rather clumsy swords dance despite being swamped in foam.

Sheila squints hard into the ball pit, trying to distinguish exeggcutor from foam. She spots what she thinks is a pink egg and calls up a flamethrower from the depths of her fire sac. Ganondorf, who had been standing around, mulling over his commands, sees the burst of flame and is suddenly invigorated. Now, he knows what to do here! The houndour throws himself into the flamethrower's path, luxuriating in the wash of flames even as it increases his own firepower. The exeggcute egg, saved by an unexpected boon, hastily burrows deeper into the pit.

Anmi's flamethrower is not similarly intercepted, though, and Penicillin lets out a gurgling yowl as the powerful fire attack singes his back. Meanwhile, Tiamat burrows down a bit in the foam, glands in her skin producing a thick, foul mucous to keep her skin damp. As she's in the midst of foam, not liquid, the acid armor can't aid her with its camouflage capabilities, but at least it will make enemies less interested in attacking her directly.

Eevee remains where he is and mutters to himself below his breath, making a terrible pact with spirits unknown in exchange for their power. His muscles thicken considerably, making him more powerful but also a bit more clumsy. Nearby, Grizzle is wading patiently through the foam, persisting until he manages to reach Edward and deal the persian a vicious one-two-three punch to the ribs.

The persian's screech grates on Fondue's nerves, and the squirtle is already on edge because her target is nowhere to be found. With Tiamat safe under a few layers of foam, she has no hopes of hitting the vaporeon. As she ponders, Edward's discomfort is only increased; Nyasha pops up out of the foam long enough to spit a burst of seeds at the persian, and they sprout immediately on contact, sinking leeching roots down into the persian's flesh.

Out of sight of most of the battlers, Not a Creeper ponders his opening move. He's quite a ways above the floor, so using an ingrain would require sending roots burrowing through several feet of foam. All in all, a substitute seems the better way to go. The balls in the pit shift slightly as the lileep forces his life's energy out of his body and gives it physical form, a glowing lileep taking shape before him, ready to defend him from harm.

Gorouna, who frankly has no idea what's going on anywhere else in the pit, diligently sets about tearing into the floor. The bottom of the pit gives way easily, leaving her with nothing more than a short drop to the floor and then a more difficult burrow into solid concrete. The geodude digs down as far as she can and then stops to take a break, confident that she's put plenty of distance between herself and her opponents.

Round One, Act Two

Edward's mood has been steadily darkening through the first part of the round, and at last he sees both the opportunity to relieve some of his anger and teach Penicillin a lesson for the humiliating way the meowth blocked his thunderbolt before. Darkness spreads from the persian's irises and dyes his sclera black as he gathers negative energy, then sends a wave of it ripping straight at Penicillin, scattering foam blocks and balls in all directions and knocking the scorched, sneezing meowth off his feet.

Far below, Mole-estation! is having less luck hitting her target. The geodude has disappeared from view, and even when the diglett creeps over to the tear Gorouna ripped in the fabric at the bottom of the mosh pit and peers through it, she can see nothing but a dark hole in the floor below. Up from this rises a protracted grinding, rasping noise as, unaware of her opponent above, Gorouna grinds down her rocky joints, smoothing them out and in doing so greatly increasing her speed.

In the meantime Penicillin has managed to pick himself up and, with a warning look back at Edward, embarked on an attack of his own. Summoning all the rage he can muster--which isn't much, actually; aside from his persistent illness, he's feeling okay--he dives at Ganondorf, attacking the houndour in a whirlwind of claws, fur, and mucous. Behind him, and still largely unnoticed by the other pokémon, Rachel sets out to distance itself from the fighting. The balls and blocks in the mosh pit aren't exactly water, or any sort of liquid at all, which makes it a bit difficult for the staryu to dive below the surface. It manages, though, turning itself on its edge and working its body back and forth in order to slip down between the cracks between foam objects. In the end the staryu comes to a halt somewhere near the middle depth of the pit, more or less level with Tiamat and Not a Creeper but out of sight of them and all other pokémon in the battle.

Exhilarated by the adrenaline and endorphins released by his swords dance, Acionyx is itching for something to test his newly-boosted strength against. Fortunately, there's an especially tasty-looking target just nearby. Although it takes Acionyx a few moments of careful observation to distinguish Nyasha's bright pink body from the surrounding foam, once he does, he doesn't hesitate to swoop in and take a huge bite of delicious exeggcute egg. The other eggs that make up Nyasha's body wail and burrow deeper into the foam as the skelitten drags off his unlucky victim, his teeth driving dark energy deep into the yolk beneath the unfortunate egg's now-punctured shell. The exeggcute's woes are only beginning, though. Ganondorf manages to shake Penicillin off--not hard, as the meowth succumbed to a coughing fit after a few seconds of exertion--and is ready to test his now-amped firepower against an actual opponent. While he previously shielded Nyasha from flames, he's now intent on roasting the exeggcute, and he doesn't hesitate to unleash a boosted flamethrower on her. Anmi, though still a bit miffed over Ganondorf's interference earlier, is happy enough to join him in roasting Nyasha now that Tiamat's nowhere to be seen. When the two streams of fire die away, Nyasha is looking much the worse for wear, her shell blackened, cracked, and oozing frothy trails of yolk. All around her the foam has melted in a semisolid, gooey mess, and the smell it lets off is terrible.

Sheila wrinkles her nose and backs up a couple of steps, but the sight of what Anmi and Ganondorf's fire attacks did to the arena doesn't deter her from preparing her own. Once again she sends a wash of flames over Penicillin, as though hoping to sterilize the infected meowth. Of course, his dolstultitis would have vanished long ago if it were so easy to purge, and all that happens is Penicillin, infectious as ever, yowls and trips backwards, collapsing on the foam as the intense fire scorches his front side.

Nestled snugly amidst the balls and blocks, Tiamat is enjoying a far less chaotic battle than the one raging on the surface. She has plenty of leeway to relax, concentrate, and summon up a shimmering veil of water energy that settles close around her body, constantly circulating to keep her skin moist and her body refreshed. Back on the surface, Fondue is only growing more anxious; first she couldn't find Tiamat, and now she can't find Rachel, either. Just her luck that both her targets so far have decided to burrow down into the pit, leaving her with no one to vent her toxic on. The squirtle crouches nervously where she is, hoping desperately not to be noticed while she fights the embarrassment of having had nothing to do so far this battle.

Edward has been thoroughly enjoying the sight of Penicillin getting roasted, and in doing so the persian has forgotten about Grizzle entirely. The metal-armed teddiursa kindly reminds Edward of his presence in the most painful way possible, smashing home another brick break that leaves the persian doubled up and spitting in pain, furious with himself for letting his guard down.

This, of course, means that he misses out on further harassment of Penicillin. The unfortunate meowth's only just picked himself up when he notices Eevee, not too far away, bracing himself with head lowered. At first Penicillin only finds this curious; it's not until the eevee charges that he recognizes the attack as skull bash, and one aimed straight for him, at that. The eevee smashes squarely into Penicillin's chest, knocking the wind out of his target and leaving the meowth to collapse to the foam once again. Eevee starts to put a little distance between himself and his opponent, then is forced to stop, a powerful sneeze rattling his small frame. The eevee blinks, eyes watering, and shakes his head. Well, that came out of nowhere. He sure hopes he's not coming down with anything...

The rest of the round is fairly uneventful. The charred and shattered Nyasha is just barely able to muster the strength to put up a light screen, far too late to protect her from the round's intense punishment. Unseen and unnoticed by all, Not a Creeper forces a burst of energy into his flesh, bulking up considerably in a matter of moments as he prepares his new energy store for quick use later.

Round One, Act Three

Edward limps a little ways away from Grizzle, heavily favoring his now-quite-bruised right side, but as before can do nothing more than glower at the bear. His target is, once again, Penicillin, as he lets rip with a searing arc of dark energy. Penicillin hadn't even bothered getting back up after the skull bash laid him low, focusing just on keeping his wheezing breath going, and so isn't knocked quite as far by the attack as he was the last time. The dark pulse is still far from comfortable, though, and the frail meowth isn't sure how much more he can take.

Nevertheless, he has to try. Taking the dark pulse as impetus to finally raise himself back to his feet, Penicillin rolls onto his stomach and slowly clambers upright, wobbling unsteadily in the foam. The battle has left him charred black in the front and bleeding from the long, black-edged lacerations left behind by the dark pulses. If his sickly form was an unsettling sight before, it's even more of one now, and Grizzle, who has been sneaking along after Edward, is considerably put out when he realizes the half-dead meowth's eyes are on him.

Penicillin lets out a gurgling battle cry and runs right at Grizzle, who decides he wants none of this and flees at top speed in the other direction, scattering foam blocks every which way. Penicillin's pounce nets him nothing but air, and he spends a few seconds flailing around and gnawing on one of the mosh pit's blocks before he realizes his target is long gone. At that point, what is there to do but lie around contemplating failure once again?

Penicillin isn't the only pokémon suffering through frustration at the moment. Far below, Mole-estation! still finds herself without a target for her earth power attack. From the depths comes the low, persistent grinding of Gorouna's continuing rock polish attack, but Mole-estation knows she has no hope of hitting the geodude from her present location. There's really nothing she can do but sit and fume, conserving energy by not firing an attack doomed to fail.

Rachel, on the other hand, is quite content. It hasn't gotten the opportunity to go toe-to-toe with any opponents yet, but on the other hand no one has been bothering it, either. To increase its chance of passing unnoticed, the staryu sets out to shrink itself, core momentarily glowing a deep red as energy pulses through its limbs. In the next instant the staryu collapses to around half its original size, now quite comfortable in the cracks between bits of foam even as the contents of the mosh pit shift around it to fill the hole left by the staryu's sudden minimization.

Above, the battle rages as fiercely as ever. Acionyx is moving carefully towards Nyasha, wary of the gooey morass of melted foam that surrounds the exeggcute. The light screen doesn't bother the skelitten in the slightest, and he passes right through it as he reaches in to snag the egg he snacked on before. Its shell already badly cracked, the exeggcute egg puts up even less resistance than before as Acionyx bites down hard, shattering even more of the egg's defenses and further overwhelming it with burning dark energy.

Acionyx doesn't have a ton of time to stand around chewing on his egg, though. Ganondorf breathes another flamethrower at Nyasha, and the skelitten is forced to drop the exeggcute and scram if he doesn't want to catch a faceful of fire himself. That Nyasha's light screen greatly reduces the amount of fire that actually reaches the fragile eggs it covers is cold comfort, as is the fact that the houndoom's aim is a bit off and only about half the attack actually strikes the barrier at all; Nyasha is still in desperate straits, nigh-cooked and struggling to keep a reign on all her panicked heads. It doesn't help that Nyasha can't see any way to go about executing her last command this round. Not a Creeper is nowhere to be seen, and even those of Nyasha's eggs that have burrowed a little ways under the foam see no sign of the lileep. Wherever he's gone, Not a Creeper is out of reach, and so Nyasha has nothing to occupy herself with save self-pity and pain.

As it turns out, though, Nyasha is to be spared further roastings this round. Sheila turns her fire on Penicillin as before, and Anmi forgoes flame altogether, instead creeping up behind Fondue and horking a foul green slime all over the squirtle's head and neck. This is far from a pleasant surprise, and Fondue squeals, falling face-first into the foam while Anmi scarpers.

Unpleasant though the toxic attack is, at least Fondue has a way to deal with it. There will be no sitting around moping around wishing she had a target for her own slime this action--it's time to do something productive! Ignoring the sting of the poison seeping through her skin, the squirtle releases a wave of energy from her internal reserves, driving poison that had only just started seeping into her bloodstream right out again. The toxic slime coating her body dissolves, and Fondue, feeling perhaps unreasonably pleased with herself, is quick to vacate the area where she had been standing and which is now dappled with splashes of noxious goo.

It's Tiamat who seems to have inherited Fondue's previous target woes. The vaporeon would certainly get a kick out of soaking a rock-ground type with her most powerful water attack, but unfortunately Gorouna is nowhere in sight. In fact, in the midst of all the foam, visibility is reduced to more or less the half inch in front of her nose. Tiamat swims awkwardly through the blocks and balls, slipping deeper into the pit but without a lot of direction. Gorouna could be anywhere, after all--and little does the vaporeon know that the geodude isn't even in the pit anymore. Ultimately, Tiamat gives up her search in disgust. She's nearer the bottom of the pit now, but it's impossible for her to tell how much farther down she'd have to press to actually reach it, and where she might find Gorouna even if she did.

Grizzle, up above, is having a better time of it. He managed to evade one mucous-dripping meowth's angry flailing, and Edward is again defenseless, an easy target for the teddiursa's brick break attack. Grizzle can't help but feel a bit proud when he has the much larger, rather intimidating persian doubled over and snarling with pain. His triumph is ultimately short-lived, though; he is completely unprepared when Eevee rushes him from the side, head lowered, and sends him flying with a powerful skull bash attack. His attack done, Eevee stumbles to a halt, then lets out another great sneeze. He can feel it--he's definitely coming down with something, and he has the uncomfortable feeling that it's whatever that disgusting, drippy meowth has. Great.

The round isn't over just yet. In the middle limbo of the mosh pit's cushiony filling, Not a Creeper is quietly moving forward with his stat boosts. Once again the lileep gathers a great chunk of energy and shoves it out into his muscles to join the first, further buffing himself up. His untested substitute glows just before his face, content to sit and wait for the time when its master will enter the fray and it will be called upon to defend him.

Terrain Notes
The foam around Nyasha is melted and scorched into a slowly-congealing, plastic-y mess. There are traces of toxic fluid near Fondue.

Final Notes
- I was a little lenient with command interpretation this round. It's okay to have multiple possible, contingent targets for an attack, but if it starts getting out of hand your pokémon will be confused in the future. The person I'm talking to knows who they are.
- The arena's accuracy drop started to mess with things in the last action. Penicillin's facade missed, and Ganondorf's flamethrower was a glancing blow.
- Go ahead and send in your commands.

Is Lucas's sickness affecting his stats in the end of round summary?

Also, good luck reffing an explosion next round.

Yes, Eevee has -1 Special Defense.

Edit: It has been requested that I post the commands for this battle eventually. I don't know that I'd want to do it at the end of a round, in case it gave some hint into what a person's future strategy would be, but perhaps after they were eliminated or at the end of the battle. Is anybody interested in this? They're a pretty big wall of text.
