• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Closed Neither Here Nor There

"Well, are we going to just stand here talking about it, or are we going to move?"
Walking over to the 'there' path, she taps her foot impatiently.

Adam walked over to Jessica, agreeing with her.

"We should at least start moving somewhere. Who knows what could happen out here? And I want to get into some better clothes."

"Thank you, nice to see someone else who actually wants to do something. Standing around will get us nowhere."
She paces hesitantly down the path, doing her best to keep an illusion of confidence.

Emlyn snapped out of his trance and followed Jessica.

Finally, someone else who wanted to get lost.

"Hey... Wait up!"

Adam ran down to join the other two.

"If anyone's comin', we'd better go now.", He shouted back to the rest of the group.

The path is pitch-black, but when light does start to filter into the path, you are..no longer in a forest. It's more like a hallway, the walls the colour of raw meat, and the metallic tang of the air almost overpowering.

The walls seem to...pulse, ever so slightly, in a steady rhythm, like a heartbeat. The path twists a few metres ahead, the light beyond there bright and warm.

The hallway lead to a large chamber, the walls the same meaty colour, and much wider. The walls are supported by what looks like enormous bones, probably ribs, and are marbled with fat and cartage. The smell is very strong here, mixed with the sent of smoke, if faint. There is a large bone altar, covered with a charred black sheet with something under it, and beyond that, another passageway that leads to a bright light.

The floor is the same fleshy colour, and has a slight give, and is warm, like a living body. It is slightly wet as well, and if you look at the bottoms of your feet, stained with red.

"Fine, just don't be impatient and run off ahead... it sucks that we can't see anything." Ara quickly jogged to follow the others, looking at the trees nervously. "I wouldn't want to get lost..." As they proceeded and the walls changed, she looked around wide-eyed.

"What the hell? No way... We're in a body." She made a gagging noise, looking down at the ground in alarm.

Emlyn gazed around the strange room. He appeared to be unfazed by the bones and miscellaneous items strewn around the room.

"This is awesome," he mumbled to himself.

Emlyn quite liked the smell of smoke mixed with metallic stuff.

The girl's head had moved, but her face, from this distance, was too indistinct to Bépya's eyes to see what hers were looking at. He looked around again, and saw that a good number of the people in this impromptu group were reluctantly heading down the left path, mostly looking like they wanted someone else to go first.

Bépya strode after them, wishing he had a flashlight. Darkness quickly enveloped him and those ahead of him, swallowing sound almost as quickly as it did light. Not that bare feet would make much of a sound at all on whatever they were steeping all over. Absorbed in his thoughts, it took Bépya a moment to notice that something sticky was on his feet. And that the walls were shuddering slightly. And that it smelled like warm metal.

A girl was gagging and Bépya sympathized.

"We're in... a body?" Matt said, as surprised as one should be, "Is there any reasonable explanation for how this is possible?"

And if so, how did we end up here to begin with? And why? And who?

Part of him wanted to know these answers, but there was a larger part that told him finding out such answers might not be the best idea.

Well, if these others go along, I guess I'll find out whether I want to or not, he thought, wincing as he put a little too much pressure on his bad leg again.

"This... is absolutely disgusting. Am I the only one who wants to head for that light? You know, before anyone vomits or anything."
Stepping as delicately as possible through the blood, she heads toward the light-passage.

Shuddering, Azril observed the surroundings with contempt. This dream was not to his liking so far. Trying to convince himself to detach this large room from the actual idea of what it appeared to be, he carefully - and light-footedly, so as to avoid the... squishiness of the floor as much as possible - walked past the strange altar with the rest of the group, glancing around at them as he did so.

Four girls - Blonde, brown haired, black haired with necklace, silver-haired. The other six were boys - Brown-haired with glasses, brown-haired and tall, long-haired, spiked brown hair, pale skinned. Names would come later - Or perhaps they didn't have names. It was his dream, after all.

Still with a hand buried in the folds of the woollen scarf, he approached the glowing doorway.

"Um, I guess that means you want to go too? Good.
...By the way, maybe we should tell each other out names? Once we're out of here maybe. I'm Jessica."
She walks through the door and into the light.

"Well, where else is there to go?" Azril replied quietly. "I'm Azril, but call me whatever you want. It doesn't matter."

He hesitated before the doorway, peering into it and glancing back at the rest of the group.

Chisai had chased after the gang.

"We're.....in a body?" she whimpered, "Well, uh....I'm Chisai."

She looked at the light passage.

"Let's go. This place scares me." she said quietly, walking swiftly towards the passage.

Emlyn, listening to everybody's conversations, nodded.

"I'm Emlyn," he said rather quietly.

He then proceeded to follow everybody who was disgusted.

Inside, the thing on the altar shifted, and then a crying sound, like a small child, filled the chamber. A little boy, about five years old with short, black hair and pale skin, had sat up, shucking off the black sheet and sitting up. He only seemed to be dressed only in a black robe.

Outside the chamber, was a rolling plain, covered in short green grass with trees siding a cobblestone path. The path leads to a village in the distance, and rolls over the hills and curves leisurely. It is, oddly, bright daylight out. A large tabby cat is perched in a tree a few yards down the path, sleeping.

Hearing the sound, Jessica turns back. Re-entering the body, she darts over to the child. She touches his arm gently, prompting him to look at her. In the gentlest, kindest voice she can, she begins to speak.
"Hello, kid... I'm Jessica. Are you okay? Hey, could you answer me some things... what is this place? Why were you sleeping there? Why is this place so strange? And, um, you probably won't know this one, but do you have any idea why we're" (she gestures at the rest of the congregation) "here?"

(Oh, and once he's answered, I'm going to ask if he'd like to come with us, so you can answer that too if you want BRCB)

"How could anyone fall asleep in here? I don't think approaching him is a good id... too late." Ara shrugged, taking a nervous step back and looking around once more before hastily moving to the exit, peering out at the suddenly peaceful landscape. The village in the distance, roofs just visible, made her raise her eyebrows, but the thing she stared at most in complete astonishment was the cat - a thread of normalcy that seemed wrong within this... place.

"This feels like... a dream," she breathed, brow furrowing. "I know I wished to be in a dream a few times, but not one like this." She took a tentative step upon the path, before sidling off of it to examine a tree, both to see if it was a normal kind of tree and also just to ensure nothing would dramatically change if she left the path.

The little boy stares at Jessica with wide blue eyes, tears rolling down his chubby little cheeks. He doesn't respond to her for a few moments, and when he does, he speaks with a thick German accent.

"I...I dunno...Zhere...vere some bad people...zhey took me here...I'm scared..." He whimpers, trying to stand up and flopping off the altar and onto his rear with a wet sounding thud. He promptly starts to cry again.

Outside, a gentle breeze blows, rustling the leaves of the trees, which seem to be young Horse Chestnut trees. Everything is calm and still, aside from the wind, and the cat continues to sleep. Overhead, there is blue sky and a few clouds.
