Storm Earth and Fire
Would you like to make a contract?
Within a deep natural harbor lies an ancient region. Never really explored by humans, the depths of the harbor hide an old kingdom, populated by aquatic Pokemon. The features at the bottom of the natural harbor, with a few caves and many rocks jutting about, make it pretty clear why humans never found this kingdom. Look closely, though, and you will notice structures that aren't quite natural. The coastline is remote and to the undersea Pokemon, appears uninhabited. They usually don't surface, though, as boats have been seen sailing by and most would rather live on without worrying about outsiders.
The ruling family of this kingdom have been around for quite some time, possibly over a thousand years, though time is a bit hard to track in the depths. They trade their lineage back to powerful warriors and possibly even dragons. Many have gone out into the wide ocean to seek their fortunes, but the ones most closely related to the original kings of the area have stayed and reigned.
Over the course of their long history, there have been the inevitable squabbles. Squabbles which have lead to skirmishes and battles between family members, usually arising from a personal insult. The harbor is currently undergoing one of these periods, in fact.
However, this one's different. The succession laws, usually slightly different under each monarch, are pretty clear most of the time. The last king, though, fell into madness. He turned on his retinue during an excursion, accusing them of being traitors, and killing at least one of them before being restrained and falling unconscious. Later, he would have fits of amnesia and forget who his family and courtiers were. The last king also had at least one wife murdered, almost unheard of in the family. And when asked about the succession law, he said, "Let them figure it out for themselves, that way they'll leave me alone."
Unfortunately, those were his last words. Thus, it's really quite uncertain who of his two sons should take the throne. Tensions between the two grew quickly. Many nobles and subjects have taken sides on the issue. Everyone, though, is worried that it will turn into open warfare.
This succession crisis, however, seems to have another crisis behind it. Strange structures have been spotted along the coastline. Humans enter and exit them at somewhat regular intervals. What accompanied these strange structures, though, threatens the lives of everyone living in these waters.
Strange and at times disturbing incidents have occurred. One such incident saw the water around a village heated to a very uncomfortable, and for some fatal, degree. Some reported boiling at the surface.
And then there was a series of incidents where lone Pokemon wandering towards the shore would, for no apparent reason, explode.
Another incident involved a load of burning material being ejected into the water, causing some serious injuries and at least one death.
However, these incidents haven't occurred in quite some time, not to mention they were small in scale. A few might be suspicious, but most are not willing to risk further damage by confronting the humans, the prime suspects. Instead, everyone seems occupied by the plight of the throne as nobody can seem to decide who is the rightful heir.
Rules and Guidelines:
- Read the Roleplay Forum Guidelines and the Rules of Good Roleplay Etiquette if you haven't already.
- You cannot be a legendary Pokemon.
- You should be a Pokemon that can survive underwater.
- You can be just about anybody, but if you want to be royalty please ask first.
- Keep in mind that you are underwater. Fire attacks don't do much, there's no wind, flying isn't really flying, and diving won't accomplish much.
- Level up moves work along these guidelines, children are only able to use low level moves, and acquire move as they grow up. Adults should be able to use mid-upper level moves. The highest level moves are attained by the martially trained. Use your judgement, but don't be afraid to ask.
- Characters can have one TM/move tutor move and one egg move. Royalty may have one extra dragon-type move, it doesn't have to be in the species' move pool, except for Draco Meteor (unless you are actually a dragon), Roar of Time, and Spatial Rend.
- Mendatt and Coroxn have called the roles of the two brothers.

Occupation: What is your character's job?
Allegiance: Has your character sworn allegiance to a liege? Nobility would usually pledge allegiance to royalty. Commoners would probably just go along with whomever held their land.
Loyalty: Has your character taken side in the succession crisis? Not necessarily the same as your allegiance.

My own character:
Name: Claudio
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Species: Lapras
Occupation: Usually ruler of a village and it's surrounding lands, but returned to the castle to try and mediate the conflict.
Allegiance: The Crown.
Loyalty: None.
Appearance: As normal. Claudio is always seen wearing a necklace with a chunk of what appears to be silver attached.
Personality: Claudio is a stable and normally calm sort of person. His main concern is simply the people of the kingdom, he is less concerned with family matters most of the time and usually just wishes to get back to helping the people. However, he is committed to resolving the issue without war, as that would be disastrous.
Background: Claudio is the son of the former king's brother, making him a cousin to the feuding brothers. He was raised to be an administrator first and foremost, and granted a parcel of land and a village to watch over at a relatively young age. His father was an important figure, known for his adeptness at commerce and being a rather distant ruler of the duchy he received. Nonetheless, nothing bad happened so people remember him fairly well. Claudio's father died under rather shady circumstances, having possibly been assassinated, though nobody could discern why. Some made the connection to the madness of the king. Claudio, though, holds absolutely no grudge, proving himself able to put things in the past and move on.
He usually didn't concern himself with family politics, but when the king died with an uncertain succession, Claudio was called back to the castle to try and settle the issue, preferably peacefully. Thus far, all he's managed to do is get saddled with helping out the regency council making sure nothing goes horribly wrong.
Extra Moves: Psychic, Avalanche, Dragon Pulse
Ability: Shell Armor
Other: If the brothers were to both die, the crown would most likely fall onto Claudio's head.
