• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

pretty sure mccain will win because all the obama supporters won't vote for obama and then be all 'whuuut' when he gets beaten

It's going to be very interesting to see who wins.

All the black people are abandoning their values just because Obama "is the first black candidate for president ooooo". Instead of looking at his platform or his values, they look at the color of his skin.

He milks it, too.

"I don't look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills."

One of my black friends says his parents are being virtually ostracized from the black community because they didn't vote for Obama.

He milks it, too.
That dollar bill thing was a response to a retarded Republican claim, he didn't just throw it out there for no reason.

As opposed to McCain who won't shut the hell up about his prison rape.
'Senator McCain! Why do you like Abba?'
'MY FRIENDS that' s great question, it's because when I was a prisonner of war blablabla'

'Senator McCain! Why do you need 7 houses!'
'My friends, let me tell you about when I was a prisonner of wait i have 7 houses when did that happen'

Of course they are not being entirely logical, but anyone with sense can see where they're coming from and empathize. You have had forty-three white male Presidents, and if Obama isn't elected there will not be another black candidate for a generation. There is something wrong with that.

I voted "strong liberal". I pretty much am always on the liberal side of things, but I dunno if I would call myself an "extreme" anything.

And I agree that while communism can't work perfectly, capitalism certainly can't either as is evidenced by my country (America). X_X

@DOLLAR BILL THING: there was apparently this really stupid ad for McCain where it showed manips of dollar bills and the Statue of Liberty to have Obama's face on it.

... yeah.

Yes, but voting for him solely because of his race is just stupid. I understand it's a milestone and everything, but isn't the fact that he's running for president good enough?

They also probably think that he will represent them better because he has the same heritage.

Represent, yes.

The job of president isn't about representation, though. It's about running the country.
tbh If it was my country I'd rather have a smart, educated half-black person with good ideas than a senile old white man who can't even remember how many houses he owns, thinks being shot down over Vietnam qualifies him to be President and picks his batshit insane VP after meeting her twice.

The way the President runs the country is supposed to be representative of the way the electors would like to run the country. Everyone who is elected is a representative.

Why would it be stupid?
Forcing people to vote does not mean forcing them to have an opinion. At worst, you would have huge numbers of people voting at random.

Australians have to vote after 18, and we're at least as free as you are.
Apparently not; having a government that forces me to say something is hardly free at all.

Frankly, the state of censorship of video games and the Internet in Australia makes this statement laughable.

I think voting should be compulsory; if for no other reason than to make it so people will shut up complaining about the state of their government when they did absolutely nothing to even attempt to change or influence it.
I'm convinced this sentiment only exists so people who vote can pat themselves on the back for being special responsible citizens and try to lord it over people who really don't give a damn.

Uphill battle, there.

More personally, I'd do it out of respect for the huge struggles the suffagettes/suffragists went through to help women get the right to vote
We went through huge struggles to end prohibition, but I feel no particular need to exercise my right to drink alcohol as frequently as possible.

I'd feel terrible to have the right to vote freely and do nothing while those people have to put their lives in danger to do so.
I don't!

And, perhaps most of all, more young people (18-25) in the UK voted in the Big Brother Final and the Fame Academy Final (seperately, not together) than in the 2005 general election, and that makes me sick.
Find candidates that are at all in touch with young people, and maybe some of them will vote.

Find young people who even know what the issues are, and maybe some of them will vote.

...it disturbs me somewhat that Valor regards the U.S. government as "some issue we couldn't give a rat's ass about".
Well, really.

I'm sure there are no white people at all who are doing the same thing.

The black vote usually goes to the Democrats anyway.

I'm a (slightly left-leaning) libertarian. People should have individual liberties - life, property, freedom of speech, freedom of press. They should be able to say what they want regardless of being pro-government or anti-goverment. The government has no say in what goes into or comes out of our bodies (alchohol, drugs, sex, abortion, etc.). It should provide for the people at the bottom of the pile that have absolutely no way out and should also upkeep infrastructure, defend the nation from imminent threats, and defend the individuals liberties. The government should not censor the media, though there should still be "kid safe" filters or channels so that those that do not wish to have "innapropriate" things fill their heads have an option. Or throw everything on the internet and get rid of tvs...

Possibly I lean more towards a mixed economic system leaning closer to socialism, though if servitude and charity were done by a good chunk of the population, there wouldn't be a need for it in the government as much. But then most people don't really care about others (which is why absolute communism will never work on a large scale).

oh good another person who likes socialism (although the reason for alchohol banning for underage is because it affects smaller bodies much more drastically than adults)

i'm a neoconservative progressive liberal socio-capitalistic commie

that makes no sense but yeah I mean i don't strictly adhere to anything so that describes it best
