I'm an Anarchist, I don't usually discuss concepts. But absolute equality is, in fact, impossible: it could be possible for a few minutes or if time froze when everyone had the same power, economically, politically, etc. but to maintain absolute equality is a good looking concept, sure, but impossible to practice.

I think Communists know that absolutely pure Communism is impossible. But pure anarchy and pure free-market capitalism are also impossible. Purity is impossible. That is acknowledged by almost everyone who writes about political theory. I suppose that instead of "Communism is absolute equality" I could have written "A Communist society is almost absolutely equal", but I didn't want to labor the point.
 
Ruby communism fails because one person who wants more power can mess it up. There will always be people who want more than equality, who place themselves above others. If you have a strong government to try to stop people from doing that, you get Stalin. Does that sound better?

Why would it be stupid? Australians have to vote after 18, and we're at least as free as you are.

It's a choice to vote. Some of us don't feel the least bit compelled to vote for some issue we couldn't give a rat's ass about. Forcing us to vote is basically saying "You get choice A or choice B. Fuck you if you can't decide and want to stay home."

Oh, hey, you didn't ask anyone else to not swear. Gotta love them loopholes.
 
pretty sure mccain will win because all the obama supporters won't vote for obama and then be all 'whuuut' when he gets beaten

I think voting should be compulsory; if for no other reason than to make it so people will shut up complaining about the state of their government when they did absolutely nothing to even attempt to change or influence it.

More personally, I'd do it out of respect for the huge struggles the suffagettes/suffragists went through to help women get the right to vote; not to mention the people in other countries who risk their lives to go out and elect a leader. I'd feel terrible to have the right to vote freely and do nothing while those people have to put their lives in danger to do so.

And, perhaps most of all, more young people (18-25) in the UK voted in the Big Brother Final and the Fame Academy Final (seperately, not together) than in the 2005 general election, and that makes me sick.

...it disturbs me somewhat that Valor regards the U.S. government as "some issue we couldn't give a rat's ass about".

Ruby: I shall use Josef Stalin as my example of how one person with power can screw up a communist society that has an 'enforced equality' whereas there will always be the human variable that makes some people want more power than others and not be satisfied with equality, which is why the 'enforced equality' would be required.

Josef didn't do it by himself though, he used Trotsky a lot before exiling him. And the rest of the Russian people, really, since he and Trostky couldn't single-handedly overthrow the Tsar.
