• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

First off, two rules for posts in this thread.

1) No flaming. Whether you're conservative, centrist, or liberal, don't flame at someone else because their stance differs from yours.
2) Be honest. Don't just say "I'm liberal" because the last five posters were liberal, or "I'm conservative" because the last three posters were conservative.

Now, to start things off:

I'm a centrist. I support euthanasia and abortion (in most cases) but oppose gun control and feel that climate change isn't as serious as thought.

But, I wanna hear YOUR viewpoints, too.

I took a quiz on this and it said I was a Centrist who was aaalmost a Libertarian. I guess that sounds right, although I'm not completely sure.

these are terrible poll options

most internet people are fiscally conservative but socially liberal

I don't really care about politics, to be honest. As long as they don't start a war or mess up the world in some other stupid way, I'm fine.

All this is only just "strong liberal" in my opinion. That's why I think the Democrats are right wing. We had universal healthcare when Hillary Clinton was eight months old. That's why I think American politics is right wing.
Geographically, the vast majority of America consists of hicks who don't travel much and interact only with people who already act and think like they do. Everyone else is weird and strange and should change to do what they do!
Only the people on coasts -- where there are all sorts of ideas and backgrounds -- are more left-leaning, and we have far more Midwest than coast. So, uh, it's kinda hard to get someone like Kucinich elected and we're stuck trying to sneak in whatever we can get. It doesn't help that the Democratic Party tends to be wildly incompetent and the Republican Party is outright ruthless.

Conjecturing wildly here but it explains the political landscape (teehee) fairly well. I'm hoping the rise of the Internet might bridge the communications gap here within a couple generations -- not just in the US, but globally.

I have already grasped all this, Eevee. I'm not trying to attack you or your country for its having right-wing politics; I was only making an observation, really.

And it must be said that 21st-centry British politics is extremely divorced from the British politics of the 1980s. Britain is politically quite similar to the United States now.

Communism always leads to dictatorship, and I admit it could work in small communities where everyone knows each other and works practically the same. In a world with huge enterprises, the idea of communism is as beautiful as Stalin's moustache. Anything bigger than a Smurf's village is a bad context for Commiz,

I didn't take it as an attack; just explaining :V

Eevee, out of curiosity, do you intend to vote?
Doubt it. This is a way blue state and LOLLLLLLLL ELECTORAL FUCKING COLLEGE THROWING MY VOTE AWAY so it would kinda be a waste of time.

I have noticed that your argument is the most common argument against Communism. I think I know why. Communism is absolute equality, and "absolute equality" is morally perfect by most people's standards. For that reason, instead of attacking the ideal, everyone says that the ideal can not be reached. I'm not a Communist, I don't know whether Communism is practical, but I know that if the USA had collapsed rather than the USSR we should all be sitting here saying that Capitalism is mad and too idealistic and not worth trying.

Of course. We'd be taken out back and shot if we said otherwise.

Well I slightly edited that bit while you were typing your reply, but my point is unchanged.

Obligatory "that's what everyone is going to be thinking".

Hah. Once you learn what the electoral college does, you suddenly feel like you were just fucked up the ass.

Anywho, I'm pretty damn liberal. CHANGE IT ALL.

I'm a moderate liberal, and more Libertarian than Authoritan.

Communism was originally intended to a good idea to benefit everyone. I still like the great dictators like Stalin, Mao, and Fidel Castro, too. Hehehehehe!
