D/P/Pt Pokemon Platinum Sprites

Is it just me thats bothered with some of teh sprites in Pokemon Platinum? I might be overexaggerating, but after I learned about spriting, I started noticing all these "dots" in the sprite. And Umbreon and other pokemon looks horrible in Platinum.

Its not just you. Scizor in particular looks bad due to the colors and shading. A while back I fixed the colors and shading, along with making some scratch edits here and there, to make it look better. Its somewhere around here. I'll try and find it.

The only sprite that seems off to me is Roselia and her eyes. EEEEEW
As for color, I can't really point out flaws. Then again, I'm not looking at them vigorously.

Hmm...doesn't the official one have shading that somewhat resembles the Johto games?

EDIT: BTW, if your moniter is older then the colors will look too dark on mine. Even now it is a tad hard to see the highlights, but they DO exist.

Ah, I remember being the one who pointed out how horrible Scizor looked on the Weirdest Sprite thread. I now notice that Misdreavus and Octillery look awful too >.>



Also, the little dots are supposed to be like that. They're supposed to represent areas that are halfway between being darker and lighter, so half the pixels are dark and half are light. They're not reallly meant to be viewed that close-up :P

Just so that Nintendo doesn't commit suicide when they realize how drunk they are when they make some sprites, I'll point out some of their more epic ones (epic in either hilarity or awesomeness)

This seems to be the case for what I find to be most of the Johto generation Pokemon that have got platinum sprites. The shading on all of them looks pretty bad, but my main annoyances are Scizor, Girafirig, Misdreavus and Quagsire.

i love the new shinx and luxray. i think they might be the best i've seen.

Luxray is awesome. The Wooper line fails.
That Skuntank. Oh my gosh. I was fighting some Galactic's one, and it used Flamethrower.
Guess where the flame came from.

Munchlax and Magikarp's eyes scare me. Roselia is epic fail. So is Chatot. I like the new Umbreon, actually, but the Vaporeon isn't as cute anymore! What happened to the smile?

Scizor's been bothering me too, and I hate that light patch on the back of Octillery's head.

as I have no experience in spriting, I can't say much, except that they managed to make Misdreavus really ugly looking, which is hard to believe, since it's MISDREAVUS!

On the other hand, some are awesome, like this one

Anyway, now that I look at it, Scizor's shading does look a little off. Budew looks like it has the wrong shape, but that's just me. And, Snorlax looks flat...

However, I LOVE a lot of the other ones such as Lucario and Luxray.

i don't like the new espeon. the tail bothers me. and i like how they changed the poses of leafeon and glaceon. now they don't look exactly the same!

I really like some of the Platinum sprites, but others, yes, were quite bad. Colors and shading be damned; what's with Rampardos looking like an old lady with an invisible walker?



And Quagsire. Oh, God, Quagsire. Look at its feet, for God's sake. Why are they drawn like the right leg is closer and the left is farther away? @_@ It bugs me with every single wild Quagsire I find, and there's a lot of them.



I also especially agree on Misdreavus.

I thought that about Rampardos too. And Vileplume is lying on its side.
Anyway, Clefairy and Clefable look a lot less idiotic now. They got rid of Clefairy's buck teeth and Clefable doesn't look like a zombie anymore.
And Combee is much cuter.

I think the one new Sprite that got worse is Marill

The eyes... they're creepy to no end!

Arceus on the other hand looks a lot better

It seems to show off his resemblance to a horse more.

I don't see what's so wrong with the Platinum Scizor and Misdreavus sprites (though the Octillery and a handful of others do have pretty bad shading, and there's definitely some with crappy-looking poses... or both, in Quagsire's case.)

I also don't see how anyone can think the "fixed" Scizor sprite that was posted looks better than the original--the red is oversaturated and the black is way too dark. And this is on my school's computers, which have much brighter monitors than the one I usually use...

The colors are hardly "oversaturated." The black also isn't that dark. Something must be wrong with your school's monitor, cause it looks fine on both of mine. Anyways, it should look they same as other D/P sprites, because that is where I got the colors from, rather than creating my own. I'm pretty sure they were pulled from Darkrai, but I'm not certain.

Actually, if they chaged the colors from D/P to Platinum, then it was probably because D/P did it the wrong way. I think, and don't quote me on this, that the Platinum colors are closer to the G/S/C colors than any other sprite.

To be honest, I know next to nothing about G/S/C sprites because I've never played the game before. T.T

I admit that some of the sprites are epic, but Quagsire sucks. >.>

The sprites that I absolutely hate are...Magikarp and Roselia (THE EYES!), Golem, the whole Cranidos line, both Shellos, Aipom, Misdreavus, Glameow, Chimecho, the Munchlax line, the whole Wooper line, Hippowdon, Marill, Octillery, Snover (crossed-eyes XD) Mesprit, Palkia, and many more because I don't wanna list them all :yawn:
