• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Things not to say in the Debating Hall

Wait, hang on, those two actually were bad. They seemed alright at the time. I should think more.

I can't really explain it very well...

And related stuff. I'm posting this here mainly so I can remind myself not to do it. XD I can't resist posting in the Debating Hall, and when I do I fully admit to being completely ridiculous.

Nowhere in the Bible does it say that slavery is ok. I don't know where you heard that but it's simply untrue. As I said before, my father is a pastor and has read the entire Bible over 4 times and nowhere in it does it say that slavery is ok.

It's natural.
It's not natural.

These statements have no place in a discussion of whether something is ethically correct, e.g. homosexuality. Here's a concise list of "unnatural" things:

-houses
-clothes
-living past age 30
-language
-discussing the subject at hand with people hundreds of miles away on a magical electronic box like you're doing now.

Therefore these arguments hold rather less water than a sieve.

I'm sorry, but while this is amusing, I can't see it as being much more than public mocking of the people who said the quotes in here. There is a purpose to having general statements like "It's natural!" and "It's not natural!", with good explanations of why they fail in the context of a debate, in a thread somewhere; specific quotes from specific members really don't help anyone.

No, I'm pretty sure if you have decent reasoning for whatever you're saying, you can say it and be treated fairly respectfully by some of the regulars (if not the more fanatic ones: psst bitching about religion for existing is out of place in many debates. IF YOU'RE DOING IT, YOU'RE AN ASSHOLE TOO, DO YOU REALIZE THAT don't be a hypocrite, guys)

Mind you, if you're saying YOU'RE WRONG BECAUSE MY GOD SAYS SO, you're not going to convince anyone and will likely be mocked.
