Forum Pairings

Technically, shipping isn't just forum members, it's anyone. A good example would be what was termed 'RocketShipping', the belief that Jessie and James of team Rocket will be, have been or are a romantic couple. Also notable for being one of the very first examples of Shipping to be widely noticed.

Oh, right. Forgot that one. Yeah, that came first, RocketShipping was the first non-ST ship and caused shipping to increase in popularity, along with causing it to be applied to non-ST stuff.

It's not that Rocketshipping was a particularly early ship; it just invented the "Xshipping" naming convention for ships. Hence why the Pokémon fandom almost exclusively uses that terminology as opposed to the namesmush pairing names more common in most fandoms.

it's not as if the pokémon fandom doesn't smush names together extensively.
