Open Green Hills and Blue Skies

Kiara stared a the store. Living in Cianwood, the only market was that house with that secret potion. This Pokemart had blue walls, with aisles of necessities and medicines. A little counter was near the western wall, with a smiling clerk behind it.

The clerk looked a little perplexed. Kiara didn't know why until she realized she had come in while riding on Cassie! She jumped off cassie, which jolted Sunny and Xena awake from Kiara's shoulders. She returned the three Pokemon into their Pokeballs, and then walked up to the clerk.

"Welcome, how can I serve you?" The clerk said politely.

Ok, this had to be some sort of thing all the staff had to say. Who says "serve you"? They should say "Help you". Pushing this thought from her mind, she started to talk. "Oh, I'd like some Great balls and Super Potions."

"Certainly. How many?"

"Five Great balls and Five super potions please." she asked politely.

"That'll be...six thousand yen madam" he said.

Kiara looked in her satchel. Nope, no money. Maybe she could pay for the items from her parents? They were rich, so 6000 yen wouldn't put any kind of debt in their money.

"Can you put it on my parent's bill? They own the restraunt in Cianwood in Johto" she asked politely.

"Oh Johto. I've been to Cianwood once and ate at that restraunt. I tell you, they're really good cooks. I can see why your familys rich." he said, this time talking as if he weren't talking from cue cards. He turned to his computer next to him."I'l just put this on their bill....and done. Enjoy your day ma'am." the clerk said, giving the items to Kiara in a Ziploc bag.

"Thank you" Kiara said as she went back to the others.

Fletcher returned his Pokémon to their Pokéballs before heading into the small store. It was nothing special, downright squalid when compared to the Department Store in Veilstone, a tiny shop selling little worth stealing and nothing worth buying. Shoplifting wasn't by any means an alien practice to him, and he eyed the others and the clerk carefully, not willing to let anyone see his theft. It wouldn't do to have them no he was a thief so early in the game. Suddenly, he shrugged apathetically.

"Nothing here really worth buying," he sighed, and headed out the door, bag a little heavier than when he had headed in, and he slung it outside on to the grass and used it as a chair whilst he waited for the others. He took his Pokémon out, meaning to learn their moves and what they could do, but he quickly became distracted by them. The two perpetually happy Pokémon, Cher-Bear and Flick, quickly one over Snub, his little Litwick face still in a morose frown, and eventually managed to get Dozer to join in. And then their plan was revealed as they all began to play a game of tag.

Flick was never caught, the little Ralts teleporting whenever anyone got too close, and so for a good while Snub was tasked with catching the others, eventually succeeding by distracting Dozer with a Confuse Ray and tagging him, where he smiled for the first time that Fletcher had seen, and the sleepy Ryhorn lazily caught Cher-Bear. But the little Cherubi was ill-suited to the game, unable to go very fast or far, and she eventually fell into a fit of crying. Fketcher picked her up and took her to the side, and the remaining three played again.

"What can you do?" Fletcher asked her, and she leaped from his arms and began to dance and sing. He laughed, but then the sun's glare suddenly blinded him, and he turned from it as heat poured from the air. The entire area suddenly became hotter, as if someone had turned up he sun like a thermostat. The Cherubi danced, clearly pleased with herself.

"Sunny day..." he muttered.

Kiara gazed around. Seeing as there was nothing else to do, she decided to walk outside abit until the others were done. Going though the automatic doors, she stepped out into the rustling grass. Starlys were flying through the air, cooing a melody that graces the ears. When all the Starlys were gone, Kiara could still hear a cooing that differed from the cooing from the starlys.

She walked around a bit more, and the cooing got louder. She went behind the Pokemart and saw a bush rustling. She carefully walked over and pushed the little branches aside. She gasped in surprise, as a Pidgey was inside. How peculiar. Pidgeys shouldn't even be in Sinnoh. She looked at the Pidgey again and noticed that its left wing was broken! She carefully picked the Pidgey up.

The Pidgey was trying to squirm away, but she eventually set it on the ground, where it laid there, tired.

"How did your wing get like that?" Kiara asked. Right then, she knew she wouldn't get an answer, since she could speak Pidgey launguage.

A whiring sound came from Kiara's satchel. Xena had come out of her Pokeball. Xena carefully went up to the Pidgey. The Pidgey started to coo softly, and a few times, Xena responded with a "Char char". After the Pidgey was done, Xena turned to Kiara. The Charmander started to act out the Pidgey's story. Xena put its arms up like wings and it threw a pebble at its left arm, showing that a large rock hit the Pidgey's wing. Xena then acted out the asshole trainer that dumped the Pidgey in the bush and left it.

When it was done acting out the story, Kiara knelt down to the Pidgey. The Pidgey refused to make eye contact. Kiara reached into her satchel and got out the Ziploc bag that held the items she just bought. Getting one of the super potions from the bag, she turned back to the Pidgey.

"This may sting a little" Kiara warned as she squirted the super potion.

The Pidgey screeched in agony. After a few moments, it moved its shattered wing slightly. Wincing a bit, it realized it stopped hurting so much. That isn't to say it was fully healed. It was still broken and only a trip to the Pokemon Center could fix its broken wing, but the wing was better nonetheless.

The pidgey stood up on its two bird legs and walked up to Kiara. It hopped onto her lap and started snuggling Kiara. Kiara smiled.

"Don't worry little guy...or girl, when me and my friends get to the Pokemon center, we'll get you healed right up so you'll be able to fly again." she said, then thought for a moment. "Hey little Pidgey, would you like to be my Pokemon?" Kiara asked hopefully.

"Pidgey!" the Pidgey chirped happily, signaling yes.

Kiara got out one of her Great Balls and pressed the button in the middle. A flash of red enveloped the Pidgey and sucked it in. The Pokeball started to shake. Once. Twice. A third time...a ding came from the red and white Pokeball. The Pidgey had been caught.

Xena smiled approvingly. "Char char!"

Kiara stood up, and started to walk back into the Pokemart, with Xena by her side. Before entering, she put the Pidgey's Pokeball in her satchel (Where the hell else would she pput it?). She stopped suddenly. There shouldn't have been an empty space for the Pokeball. One of her Pokeballs weren't there. Franticlly, she took out all her Pokeballs and sent out all of her Pokemon.

Xena was already out, so Lucy, Sunny, Timmy, and the new Pidgey came out of their Pokeballs...where was Umbra? Kiara remembered something about a PC in the Pokemon center, where extra Pokemon go. Kiara reassured herself that Umbra was in the PC. No need to worry, right? She put everyone but Pidgey and Xena back in their Pokeballs, and then walked into the pokemart, with Xena on her shoulders and the Pidgey on her head.

Alex entered the small shop, a simple adventuring supply shop, where the gear needed to catch and tend to ones Pokémon where at the front desk, and at the back there was another desk where one could purchase things like tents, trail mix, and other camping gear. Alex went to the PokéSupply counter and was greeted with a freindly,

"Welcome to the Sandgem PokéMart, how may I help you?" The clerk said, a professional smile upon his face.

"Um...a dozen Super Potions and a half dozen Full Heals please." Alex replied, already fishing out his wallet, procuring a bank card.

"That'll be...8400 Yen for the Potions, and 3600 Yen for the Full Heals, Totalling 12000 Yen." Alex handed the man his card and the transaction went through. "Ah, another Kurohari. Good to see you off to your journey." The clerk handed Alex a paper bag with the supplies, "And there you go. As a bonus to purchasing that much I put a couple Premier Balls in, consider it a bonus for purchasing that much."

Alex nodded and thanked the man, and departed from the store, his wallet now back in his pocket. Alex made his way to the PokéCenter, having noticed that Kiara had just gone in, with a brown coloured Pokémon on her head. Alex entered after her and saw the Pidgey now on the counter with the nurse.

"Hey, Kiara, where'd you get the Pidgey? You know they're not native to Sinnoh, right?" Alex asked, setting his purchase down on the counter and begining to put it away in his satchel and pockets.

Kiara turned to alex. "Oh, yeah, well, this Pidgey was alone in a bush. It was abused by its trainer and it has a broken wing. I gave it a super potion and now it likes me."

She turned to teh nurse. "Excuse me, but could you please heal my Pokemon?" she asked as she set four of her Pokeballs on the counter, with Xena and Pidgey also on the counter.

"Certainly. Please wait one second" Nurse Joy said as she put the Pokemon and the pokeballs into the machiene. After a couple of moments, the nurse gave Kiara back the Pokemon and POkeballs. "We hope to see you again" Nurse Joy said courteously.

Kiara puased for a moment. "Wait, you want my Pokemon to get hurt more so they can come back here?"

Nurse Joy hesitaited before talking. "Err, well, we mean that if your Pokemon do get hurt, this place doesn't cost anything so your Pokemon can always be healed."

"Why do you keep saying we? Are you a clone or something and the other clones are threatening to take over all the human hospitals to make into Pokemon Centers so humans won't have anywhere to heal themselves?" Kiara asked.

"Get out of my hospital" Nurse Joy said, seeming annoyed.

"Ok, but first, I need to go to the Poke Computers, or whatever PC stands for." she said as she walked over to the PC. After putting the Pokeballs in her Satchel and Xena and Pidgey on her, she stopped infront of Alex.

"Anyway, I'm not even sure if this Pidgey's a boy or a girl." she looked at the Pidgey. "Are you a boy?"

the Pidgey chirped approvingly. "It's a boy. What should I name it...Alex, do you have an idea on what I should name the Pidgey?"

Dink followed the other mostly in silence, aside from the occasional muttering and laughter. He walked along the wall of the little shop, staring blankly at several little trinkets, things that you could buy almost anywhere, like matches, chapstick, and your generic everyday cold pills. He picked up a little plastic statue of a grotesque gargoyle. It hardly weighed a thing.

After a few minutes, he went to purchase the gargoyle, some chapstick, a box of toothpicks, and a rubber ball. Perhaps Fletcher can play fetch. He though, amused at the thought. It aroused more laughter from him. The clerk gave him the usual, "How may I help you," but it was more confused. Dink stared at the man for a full minute before slowly placing each item on the counter. The man, rather uncomfortable, quickly scanned in the items, and told him the price. Dink sniffled, wiping the side of his nose with his sleeve. He pulled out a single bill, and left it on the counter, taking his items, and left, without caring for change. He hummed a little tune to himself, occasionally laughing as he examined his new gargoyle.

He considered going back to purchase supplies he'd need for his Pokemon. But it seemed pointless, seeing as he already had the gargoyle. He whipped out a toothpick, and rested it on his lower lip, and managed to wedge another one between his teeth. He laughed as he ran his finger over the Gargoyle's fingers, clutching to the fake rock it rested on.

Alex smiled bemusedly, he greatly enjoyed naming Pokémon, it allowed them to be personfied and individualized. One different from the next, and in more than just personality. Alex's naming scheme wasn't exactly set, each earning their name through different reasons.

"Well, I don't really know, to be perfectly honest. Each Pokémon can have an individual name for equal reasons, or none at all..." Alex replied, examining the Pidgey. "There's not much to go on, as we don't know his personality. He's a flying type, so a more free-flying or independant name would be more appropriate. As I said, I don't know. It's truly up to you, and your new freind here, as to what his name will be."

"Anyways, you really shouldn't bother the nurse for what she says, after all, it is a free service, and she's just trying to be friendly. Remember, PokéCenters aren't just for healing your team, but also as a place to meet others, relax, and rest." Alex said, a as-a-matter-of-fact expression upon his face as he said it.

"But..." -She glanced around a bit. She just couldn't hold the smirk her mouth was making-"There's no one else here, so I can't meet others. And don't blame me, she's the clone who wants my Pokemon to get hurt in battle."

She looked at her new Pidgey. What to name it? Independant...free flying...that's it!

"I know what to name him! I'll name him...Windswept! Would you like that?" she said, then turned to the Pidgey.

The Pidgey mulled it over a bit, then nodded happily. His name shall now be Windswept. It suits him. After all, Bird types are majestic Pokemon. A majestic name would fit best.

Kiara mentallly facepalmed. Derp, there was no such thing as a bird type. Why must Kiara be so dumb at non important times?

[... Wooooow. This is what I get for being gone this weekend ;_;]

Atem had just gotten finished buying assorted items for her Pokemon, which included potions, full heals and a few Pokeballs just in case, all totaling up to a grand total of 15000 Yen. Lazily the Goth pulled out a gold card from her pack and slid it through. "My, my, you're an Atem?" the clerk asked, clearly surprised. "I thought your family was over in Unova." He rose an eyebrow at her. Atem's eyes narrowed as she stuffed her card back in her sash with a little more force than intended. "We don't have to stay in one place all the time," she hissed through clenched teeth, her pale eyes giving the man a fatal glare. The man held up his hands, not fancying an argument, and handed the girl a paper bag. "There are a few Premier Balls in there as well," he mentioned, turning away, "as a bonus. For buying all that stuff."

Giving him a curt nod, Atem stepped back over to the ground as she emptied the bag into her pack, organizing it appropriately.

Fletcher's Pokémon chatted happily among themselves, their repetitive vocabulary floating in his right ear and out the left. His bag made for an uncomfortable seat, and so he took to standing, looking or what was here. Kiara had found an injured Pidegy and took it under her proverbial wing. He liked that about her. Another burden, taken on in an instant. She and Alex disappeared into a Pokémon center, and Fletcher became a little conscious of how alone he was, wanted to follow them, but he had no reason to go, and might he look a little desperate for companionship? He shrugged, and headed over to Dink, who was outside the store, playing with a little toy Gargoyle. He felt for he kid's poor Pokémon, who most likely would never get fed, and walked right on by into the store.

"I thought your family was over in Unova."

"We don't have to stay in one place all the time."

"There are a few Premier Balls in there as well, as a bonus. For buying all that stuff."

Atem quietly arranged her bag, and Fletcher took a step into the shop, then another, and suddenly he was right beside her. He leaned nonchalantly against a row of shelves and spoke.

"Seeing as we are on an epic adventure together, you really should share. Why come here from so far away? It can't be the companionship, which you certainly have no interest in. So tell me, why Sinnoh? Surely you could afford a bodyguard or twelve to accompany you on your travels over there. Unless, that is the reason. A little escape from mother and father?

Atem took a step away from Fletcher as he drew near, questioning her about her reasons for coming to Sinnoh in the first place. Her eyes narrowed at him at the last remark he muttered, and she arrogantly crossed her arms across her chest. "I have no secret purpose," she stated scornfully, turning her attention to Masque as he stared intensely at Fletcher, "Neither do I fancy the idea of being protected. I am perfectly capable of holding up my own. I don't need bodyguards to follow me around every where."

The Goth helped Enigma climb onto her other shoulder as he sneered at Fletcher, sticking his tounge out. "Any other questions?" she tilted her head as her scowl softened the slightest bit. "Or is that enough to satisfy you?"

Kiara smiled at Windswept. Windswept smiled back, which was pretty funny, considering it doesn't have lips and the best it could do was something with its beak.

"Hold on, I have to check the Poke Computer, or whatever the acronym means." she said to Alex as she went to the PC.

Kiara never used a PC. It seemed to be a Phone booth without the glass walls surrounding her. So...she calls someone? A flash of white light came from the screen. A little jingle played as it turned on. After that, a list of people were there to call from. Professor Oak, Professor Elm, Professor Birch, Nurse Joy, Officer Jenny, basically anyone highly revered.

She decided to call Professor Elm. Even though she never met him, she had heard of him. A ringing sound was coming from the phone. After the fifth ring, Professor Elm's face appeared on screen.

"Hurr...who are you?" he said, seeming to be tired.

"Oh, I'm Kiara from Cianwood. I was wondering if my Eevee had come here. See, I just got my seventh Pokemon, and my Eevee went to the PC. I didn't know who to call about this, but since you're the professor of Johto, I just had a hunch she'd get to you."

"Is this Eevee a different color that a normal one?" he asked warily.

"Yes, it is coloured like an Umbreon."

"Oh yes yes, got it about ten minutes ago. but I hadn't acknowledged it too much, because I went back to sleep after that. Anyway, yes, I have your Eevee and it is safe here"

"Well thanks a whole lot Professor Elm," Kiara thanked as she hung the PC up.

Before walking back over, she decided to do something else with the PC. Seeing Nurse Joy of Sandgem Town's name pop up, she called her.

The nurse joy only yards away answered the phone. "Hello?"

"So are you really a clone that wants to heal our Pokemon for research, or are you just an alien that does anal probing to our Pokemon and erase their memories so it seems that you were just healing them?" Kiara asked.

Nurse Joy turned to Kiara, who was having a laughing fit. "Get the out of my hospital." she said in a I-have-to-be-nice-but-if-I-didn't-I'd-throw-you-against-the-wall voice.

Kiara scoffed. "Fine." she walked over to Alex on her way out. "I'll be walking around outside if you need me"

Begrudgingly grinning, Alex checks his PC settings, ensuring that the 'Send To' location is his father's ranch, a special option Alex and his family recieves. Before departing from the PokéCenter, Alex apologises to the Nurse for the troubles his freind caused.

"I'm certain I said not to do that..." Alex states upon leaving from the red roofed building. "But, if that's the kind of person you are, this journey's going to be more interesting, and enjoyable, than I had thought it would be."

Alex nodded to himself, and then began making his way to route 202.

"I'll be waiting at the begining of the route for the rest of you guys once you're ready." Alex says aloud, making sure that the rest of the group could hear him.

Kiara had seen Alex walk out and heard his comment. "Well, I'm an interesting girl. I can make anything happen in a snap!" she said in a rather self absorbed way, "To tell you what I think, I think I'm the second most normal, with you being first and Fletcher being tied for second."

Windswept chirped happily and flew a little. After doing that, it perched onto Alex's shoulder.

"It looks like my Pokemon like you," Kiara giggled.

She whistled for Windswept to come, and it did. Kiara had a feeling that Windswept would be a vital member of her team. But what about Umbra? Umbra wouldn't be happy being with Professor Elm the entire time. Kiara did have an idea...but she'd have to wait until Atem came.

"I'll be walking around the route also, seeing if there are any trees bearing fruit," she said as she wandered around.

Without an answer from Fletcher, Atem strolled out of the Poke Mart and quickly spotted Alex walking out of the Pokemon Center. Mentally shrugging, seeing nothing else to do, the Goth caught up to him and blinked. Her Pokemon were clinging to her body: Masque safely in her arms, Spiritus snuggly on her left shoulder and Aveen on her right, and Enigma resting on her head. Spiritus gave Alex a welcoming "Fwee!" as his trainer neared him, and Aveen soon followed with a curt nod of her head.

"So, how much longer in this town until we head over to Jubilife?" Atem asked Alex, her face unreadable. She was itching to go to this bustling city and feel the rush of excitement she felt back in Black City, but she kept a solid front on to hide her anxiousness, as usual. She reached her arm back to stroke her Gothita on the head, then brushed Aveen's cheek as her hand went back to her side. Masque floated up near her shoulder, and he was blinking questioningly at Alex.

Kiara heard Atem's voice. A perfect time to do this. She walked up to Atem.

"Atem...I just caught a Pidgey...though Umbra was sent to the PC box. I don't think she'd be happy in that, and since she likes you...would you like to have Umbra? Umbra likes you much better than me." she asked cautiously.

Windswept flew around and landed in a tree, though in a place where Kiara could still see it. It pecked at a few Oran berries and scurried back to Kiara.

The Goth blinked at the question. Was she serious? No, honestly. Was she? How could she just give away a Pokemon that didn't like her? That's why you build up their trust in you! Kiara just got her Pokemon, after all! This was a rhetorical question. All of it was. How could Kiara even fathom such a thing?!

"Absolutely not!" she hissed sharply, a vein popping out on her forehead. "Just because that Eevee likes me better doesn't at all mean you should give her away. She's your Pokemon! And you and only you will own her. End of." She crossed her arms, her brow furrowed deeply.

Kiara got a little pissed off. "It's just that she likes you better. I want my Pokemon to be happy. Plus, you gotta admit, Umbra is pretty much like you."

Windswept felt a little glum. He had taken another Pokemon's place? What if Kiara caught another Pokemon? Would she give Windswept away? No...that was preposterous. Still, Qindswept couldn't help but feel sad...

Duncan blinked. He lowered the slab of tree bark he had peeled away from a nearby tree, and entered back into 'the world of the living,' so to speak. He walked rather lazily over to his other companions, taking a bite of the bark. He sucked on it rather absent-mindedly, not really intending to eat it, but just enjoy the flavor a little. He looked on the interactions of his would-be friends with mild disinterest.

He observed the apparent giving of one Pokemon to another person. A poem forced itself into his mind, and he recited it as he twirled a Pokeball in one hand, spitting out his chunk of treebark.

"Rings and jewels are not gifts,
but apologies for gifts.
The only true gift is
a portion of thyself."

It was just the ending to the poem, quoting somebody he didn't know. He took another bite of tree bark, this time pulling off some of the softer layers of the inside with his teeth. It was considerably more delicious.

"We will leave for Jubilife as soon as Fletcher is ready, as I assume the rest of you are." Alex replies, having just recently allowed Zhassa out of her PokéBall. The young Zangoose was already very judgemental, when she chose to acknoledge others, and had began jabbing sharply at a tall rock nearby, each hit landing in a rhythmic pattern. Alex wasn't paying much attention to her, having now changed focus to the situation building between Atem and Kiara.

"Kiara, the purpose of you having chosen and recieved Umbra was to raise her, despite her personality quirks. Some Pokémon will take longer than others to warm up to their trainer. For example, Zhassa here is about two, and has been with me that long. She still has troubles getting along with me, but we are still working at forging our relationship. My father even had troubles over the years, and gave me a similar explantion when I was initially having problems with Zhassa. You've only just met Umbra, give yourselves a chance to bond." Alex said, trying to ease the situation.
