Oh, wow. It's already three days into October, and there's still no NaNo thread? What devilry is this?
Sooo for once I guess this discussion is not too horrifyingly early, then! For those of you who are confused, NaNoWriMo, short for National Novel Writing Month, is a month-long event in which thousands upon thousands of crazy people each endeavor to write a 50,000-word novel over the course of November. You start on November 1st and see how far you can get by November 30th (writing around 1667 words per day will get you to 50K by that date, but you can always finish sooner or write something even longer!). It doesn't matter whether the writing is flawless, either—the point of the whole shebang is just to write, to get yourself putting words on paper/a word processor even though you're always telling yourself that you can't do it or that you don't have time, to make time for yourself and turn off your inner editor in spite of all the excuses. Even if you churn out 50,000 words of crap (and while a lot of it will be crap, oftentimes it's really not as bad as you think!), you'll likely find that you still had fun and felt accomplished doing it.
...besides, there's always National Novel Editing Month in January (or whenever!)—just make sure you get a foundation by actually writing something, and you can go back and edit it until it's solid later!
Who's participating? Who already has ideas for the story they're going to write, and how much planning have you done for it? Are we gonna have another big word war this year? :P
