So I decided to take the Ground mono type challenge in Silver.

Hopefully I'll end up beating the E4 with a team of Graveler, Sandslash, Quagsire, and Piloswine, maybe defeat Red with the addition of a Marowak.

So anyway, I've defeated the first gym which was ridiculously easy. I then carried on with the plot and tried to beat Brawly. Epic fail on my part. Time to train.

To answer your question, I'm like 98% sure you can only use a pokemon if it's actually in that type, otherwise, what's the point of calling it mono-type? (Yeah, E4 Aaron's got a Drapion, but Flint has a Steelix, Lopunny, and Drifblim, so...)

Update: Well, I've beaten two more gyms and added another pokemon to my team. It took a couple of times to beat Brawly, but I beat Wattson on my first try. I've been going to the Battle Tents a lot for some reason... I just arrived in Fallarbor Town.
