• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Empathic mimicry. Peter Petrelli has so much potential for awesomeness ;__;

that's a kickass power btw, I just take all of your powers by standing near you and then I am SUPERHARLEQUIN.

New game idea.

CAN YOU CAUSE THE NEXT BIG BANG!

From the index page I thought this thread was going to be "Which Superpower Would You Be?".

And then it wasn't.

:(

Except fun and freaking people out, are there many uses for this? (except flying, like you said)

Well, I could smite enemies with lighting bolts, drown them in constant rain, batter them with strong winds, burn them with intense sunlight and so on.

Actually, you wouldn't quite be able to fly in a bird form or fight as a strong animal and so on - you wouldn't know how to fly, fight and so on, until you learnt.

Well, I was thinking that when you do use the power, you've got the instinct. I've read Animorphs (sort of the first thing to spark this intrest of mine) and that's the system they use there.

And I wouldn't mind if my human life would be gone forever. I don't have THAT much to live for.

At least you could learn. It's part of the challenge and weakness of that power. I wouldn't want an unbeatable power where you could turn into anything and automatically master their powers/abilities.
Yes, in the Animorphs system they have instincts, but that system is different anyways- from my limited knowledge, you have to touch what you turn into, yes? And you can only stay for what, two hours? Instincts doesn't seem like a fair trade for those restrictions (the first one isn't so bad, but the second puts a damper on it and makes it mildly dangerous).

@Minnow: Hmm... I guess the only instance where you would be required to fight crime as if you gained your powers because you were supposed to fight crime with them (think magical girl anime), but I can see what you mean. It would be a nuisance to have to shape your whole life around punishing evildoers, and dangerous, but I personally would love it (though I would be terrible at it). I mean, it's epic, but then again, it's not for everyone, and I'd pretty much settle for anything. ^_^

I've half changed my mind - I'd also like healing and/or regeneration (preferably the second one first, or the capability to use the first on myself) 'cause I can use that for anything

Shapeshifting. Definately. I'm kind of glad to see that everyone else wants it too, but... yeah. I said flight though, that'd be awsome. Anyone here read Maximum Ride? Epic win. That's all that has to be said.

I had a discussion with my friends about this recently, too. Except... it wasn't so much superpowers, but whether we would want wings or gills (like behind the ears).

I chose the gills.

I don't exactly know how the wings would actually lift you off the ground. :/
I guess through magic.

I chose the gills.

Gills in addition to, or a substitute for lungs?

Because the latter would kinda suck, to be honest.

Being the indecisive person that I am, I instinctively go "all of them! ;;". But I have given this some thought... and here are those thoughts.

Flight: Winged, wingless or whatever, this appears awesome at first. However. Practically speaking, teleportation would be far better for getting to places. While flight would be exhilarating (especially at first) and certainly impress people, I have to say that I think it's not the best option.

Invisibility: Sure, invisibility opens up many possibilities in the fields of slipping-around-unnoticed and playing-mischievous-tricks-on-unsuspecting-people. But what else? Like flying, it's a small core of practical application wrapped in a huge, thick, multicoloured blanket of novelty. (For the record, I'd pick flying over invisibility.)

Super Strength: Nnnno. Being good at heavy lifting is nothing next to most other superpowers.

Speed: Potentially stylish, but everyday life generally does not require me to dodge bullets.

Teleportation: Practical and impressive. There are still more interesting powers, though. And there's usually a mundane way to get from A to B - if you're going to pick a superpower, go for something really special. :D

Shapeshifting: Versatile fun, and very tempting. There's definitely a massive novelty factor to this, too, but with so many options, I suppose you'd always be able to try something fresh.

Telepathy: Sweeeeet. A sort of direct power over your fellow humans is always going to be terrifically useful for day-to-day life. Bonus awesome points if you're insatiably nosey. And it has the added bonus of stealthiness - nobody can prove a thing, so you can stay completely under the radar if you like.

But consider that for many of the above, yes, you are going to awe, bewilder and terrify people, but you are also going to attract the attention of a government or two. Who may want to capture you and try to figure out what makes you work, or may just want to kill you because you have a scary power and that's threatening and things that make humanity feel threatened are obviously inherently evil and need to be killed so we can all go yay and I need sleep.

But before I do, my likely choice? Telekinesis. Seriously. Limitlessly strong telekinesis would encompass pretty much everything. If you take it as meaning "the ability to manipulate matter at will", what can't you do with it? The universe is your canvas. Even if you take a more restricted definition, flinging stuff around with your mind would still be damned fun.

... Whyyyy do I spend so ridiculously long answering these hypothetical questions? @_@

Dannichu: In addition to.
Ayame: Huge-ass wings.

edit: i said crys instead of dannichu cause your posts were like -- this close to eachother and i was tired :/

But think of the laziness it allows - you can wake up five minutes before you have to be somewhere and make it on time
Also no transport costs. Ever. (unless you don't want to run, say, from London to Glasgow)
