Pokebeach has got a lot of clearer battle images, if anyone is interested.

The new battle screens look pretty cool. Apparantly, Pokemon are now going to be slightly animated when they attack, which I think is a cool. Also, the clearer shots still show some pretty neat graphics in the other shots.

There is also a bridge connecting Hiun to another city, and I think that just screams "Cycling Road" for some reason. There's also another few shots that is really making me think we're getting a rotational camera for some areas in the game.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!

black-white-screenshot-14.jpg

This screenshot has confirmed my suspicions. They are reusing the 4th Gen sprites, meaning that the 3rd Gen Mons might be not get new sprites....AGAIN!

Gamefreak, I am disappoint.

That doesn't confirm anything. :/ How do you know it's not a placeholder like those early giratina-o sprites?

It is awfully early to call anything confirmed at this stage. Early screenshots of FR/LG showed the starters' R/S sprites and everyone was whining until it turned out the games did have new sprites for all the Kanto Pokémon. Of course they'd load the perfectly fine sprites they already have into the game as placeholders while they're developing it, even if they intend to replace them later.

omg guys look at the shadows! They're actually shaped like the pokemon instead of being generic circles. :O

why yes this is probably the most exciting thing to me about this screenshot

The grass starter is really the only one who isn't flat out ugly but still looks like its type, but Grass Snake doesn't really describe it at all. It has arms and legs.

Maybe the arms are non-functional arms? I mean, snakes have vestigial limbs... Or maybe this is like a super old species of Pokemon that was just discovered and was one of the few snakes who kept non-functional limbs. :O

Or to add to that, maybe the limbs don't have function now until it reaches the 2nd stage.

OR OR OR it evolves into something similar to a mythical Basilisk... hmm...

(ok i am weird but whatever :| )

"I always use the grass-type starter so I'll probably use that" - this is what I thought before everyone else decided to use it. Now I really want to use the fire pig because, well, it's a pig. As cool as the grass-type one is, it has that smug smile on its face as though it knows that it is the best-looking and most popular of the starters. Of course, I'll have to see the back sprites and evolutions before I actually make a decision because that's what I'll be seeing for most of the game.

They do. Of course, one has to wonder how they're going to handle contact attacks like tackle, or even fire punch... will the pokémon have running/punching/kicking animations, too, or will they just ram a relatively static sprite forward into the opponent? Or go the middle ground with a generic "move to make contact" animation? Hm.

Okay, all the city shots are redeemed by the fact that that city shot is REALLY AWESOME. Not like a cold-looking "Veilstone-y" kind of city at all.

My only complaint is that the NPC's really have NO variety.

Oh my God, WHOA. It's so smooth too, these animations. That is loads better than I expected. I love it! Ahaha, now I'm really excited for these new games.

In addition to the praise given by everyone else, I'd like to comment on the fact that people actually get out of your way when you're trying to walk. <3

YAY. Now Pokemon actually aren't so static. The video is here, if anyone is interested.

The new city footage makes me think of FFXIII, where the NPCs don't directly communicate with you. It makes it kind of cool.

Plus, did other people notice that the music in the battle animations is actually pretty cool? It seems like Gamefreak now realizes that having good music in a game is good.

All in all, I am happy with this footage. Especially the fact that battles won't be so insanely monotonous any more. They'll still be monotonous, but not as much.

THE SPRITES MOVE.
THE SPRITES.
MOVE.

This'll make spriting hella interesting and fresh again <3
And NPCs get outta your way <3

Why are people impressed by this? There are games (Nintendo DS games at that) that pull off things infinitely more aesthetically impressive. It really doesn't take much to make Pokémon fans excited, does it?
